Citroën brought the Berlingo Van First to IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover for its public debut. Announced in June and available from September 1, this entry-level version targets operators who need flexible cargo space at a lower price.
Cargo Capacity and Cabin Layout
The Citroen Berlingo Van First offers 3.3-4.4 m³ of cargo volume and a maximum one-tonne payload, depending on configuration. A redesigned front bumper adds protection; the cabin gains a new dashboard and door panels. The standard Flexiseat folds the passenger seat to free up to 0.5 m³ of extra loading space. Citroën says professionals drive alone about 80% of the time.
| Cargo measure | Citroën figure | Metric equivalent | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cargo volume | 3.3-4.4 m³ | 3,300-4,400 litres | Match the configuration to equipment volume. |
| Maximum payload | Up to 1 tonne | Up to 1,000 kg | Check tools, stock and occupants against the chosen van's limit. |
| Flexiseat cargo gain | Up to 0.5 m³ | Up to 500 litres | Fold the passenger seat when a second occupant is unnecessary. |
Buyers should not assume one configuration combines maximum volume and payload. Citroën has not published First-specific wheelbase, cargo-floor length or loading-height figures. Operators carrying long equipment should request measurements for their chosen van.
Electric, Diesel and Petrol Choices
Citroën offers a 100 kW electric Berlingo Van First with 136 hp and up to 270 km of WLTP range. The line-up includes HDi 100 and HDi 130 diesels plus a 110 hp petrol version. A mild hybrid follows in 2027.
| Powertrain | Stated output or designation | Stated range | Operational fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric | 100 kW / 136 hp | Up to 270 km WLTP | Routes with reliable depot charging. |
| Diesel | HDi 100 | Not stated | Higher-mileage work with quick refuelling. |
| Diesel | HDi 130 | Not stated | Buyers who want the stronger diesel option. |
| Petrol | 110 hp | Not stated | Fleets considering petrol for their duty cycle. |
| Mild hybrid | Due in 2027 | Not stated | Buyers who can wait for another option. |
Driving style, weather, route and configuration can change real use. Citroën has not specified First-specific battery capacity, charging time, fuel consumption or CO2 emissions in these announcements; fleet comparisons need local specifications.
Which Cabin Options Earn Their Keep?
The optional Modutable creates a surface for a laptop, paperwork or lunch; owners can add it later. Moduwork adds a centre seat for three occupants, storage and through-loading for long items. Other options include the removable Moduconsole, under-seat Drivedrawer and a 220 V socket. Enclosed Dashbox storage arrives in 2027.
Pro-Tips for Fleet Buyers
- Check the actual duty cycle: Compare daily distance and charging access before choosing the electric version; leave room for winter and loaded trips.
- Specify the working cabin: Choose Flexiseat for frequent solo trips or ask about Moduwork when a third occupant regularly joins the crew.
Citroën also displayed a Citroen Jumper L3 double-cab tipper, seating up to seven and unloading on three sides. Its aluminium bed weighs about 120 kg less than a comparable steel bed. For Berlingo buyers, local pricing and the selected van's payload rating remain decisive; Citroën quotes no universal price.
