Renault has launched the Niagara pickup for Latin America with a clear brief: carry a working load in a family-friendly cabin. The double-cab truck measures 4,910 mm with front-wheel drive or 4,940 mm with four-wheel drive. It offers a 938-litre bed and a 1.3-litre turbo engine for Brazil.
Brazil, Argentina and Colombia head the sales plan. Renault assembles Niagara at Santa Isabel in Argentina after developing and testing it for the region. Renault has announced no European launch.
What the Niagara's dimensions reveal
The Renault Niagara 4x4 stretches 30 mm longer than the 4x2; both stand 1,720 mm tall. Its footprint approaches the Fiat Toro's. Buyers with tight parking spaces should check the ordered version and fitted accessories.
Renault offers 17- or 18-inch wheels, depending on specification. A raised bonnet and broad arches create the visual mass of a larger pickup. Roof bars and a roll bar can secure bulky gear, subject to separate accessory limits.
| Published Niagara figure | Front-wheel drive | Four-wheel drive | Practical reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall length | 4,910 mm / 193.3 in | 4,940 mm / 194.5 in | Check garage depth against the ordered version |
| Overall height | 1,720 mm / 67.7 in | 1,720 mm / 67.7 in | Check entrances before adding roof cargo |
| Wheel diameter | 17 or 18 in, by version | 17 or 18 in, by version | Tyre size and replacement cost depend on trim |
| Cargo-bed volume | Up to 938 litres | Up to 938 litres | Volume says nothing about permitted load mass |
| Published maximum payload | Up to 654 kg across the range | Up to 654 kg across the range | Confirm the specific trim's rating before purchase |
| Published towing figure | Up to 710 kg across the range | Up to 710 kg across the range | Confirm hitch approval and local limits |
Renault has not published a market-wide wheelbase, bed-length or approach-angle figure in its launch overview. Request the local technical sheet before planning long cargo or difficult trails. Bed volume, payload and towing capacity describe separate limits.
Petrol now, hybrid four-wheel drive later
For Brazil, Renault advertises a 1.3-litre turbo four-cylinder with 158 cv and an available dual-clutch automatic. Across the region, buyers can expect manual or automatic transmissions, petrol or flex-fuel compatibility according to market, and two- or four-wheel drive. Renault has not published a universal fuel-consumption or torque rating.
The transmission changes the truck's character. A dual-clutch automatic preselects its next gear for quicker shifts. Buyers who creep uphill with trailers should test the drivetrain under load to check low-speed behaviour.
The automatic 4x4 system transfers drive according to grip, helping on wet earth without requiring constant driver input. Steel underbody protection guards vulnerable components; tyre choice, clearance and load still limit off-road progress.
In addition, the RGMP platform can accommodate a later Niagara hybrid 4x4. Renault has yet to disclose its battery size, combined output, consumption or launch date. Buyers need published test data before they can compare hybrid running costs.
Renault unveiled Niagara in September 2026 without assigning a region-wide 2027 model year. Buyers searching for a 2027 Renault Niagara should check their national catalogue. The promised hybrid will require separate specifications.
A cargo bed that still needs a weight check
The 938-litre bed holds tools or sports equipment. Renault's Brazilian page advertises up to 654 kg of payload and 710 kg of towing capacity. A lockable hard cover can protect cargo; check its availability by trim.
938 litres of capacity do not equal 938 kg of permitted cargo. Dense materials can reach the weight limit before they fill the bed. Passengers and accessories also reduce the mass available for cargo under the applicable rating.
Pro-Tip: How should you check the load rating?
Ask the dealer for the vehicle's payload and gross weight figures. Add the mass of passengers, accessories and cargo before loading. For trailers, check towing, hitch and combination-weight limits in your market.
Renault Niagara vs Fiat Toro and Chevrolet Montana
Looking at the data, the Fiat Toro provides Niagara's closest bed-volume comparison. Fiat's 2027 Toro Endurance lists 937 litres and 750 kg of payload. Niagara gains one litre of volume but trails that Toro version by 96 kg in quoted maximum payload. Frequent heavy loads favour the higher weight rating.
| Published specification | Renault Niagara, Brazilian launch | Fiat Toro Endurance MY27 | Chevrolet Montana 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | 1.3-litre turbo petrol/flex, by market | 1.3-litre turbo flex | 1.2-litre turbo |
| Advertised power | 158 cv in Brazil | 176 cv | 141 cv |
| Cargo-bed volume | Up to 938 litres | 937 litres | Up to 874 litres |
| Published payload | Up to 654 kg across Niagara range | 750 kg | Check version-specific technical sheet |
| Transmission | Manual or automatic, by version | Six-speed automatic | Manual or automatic, by version |
| Electrified option | Hybrid 4x4 planned for later | 48-volt mild hybrid on other Toro trims | No hybrid on cited model page |
Different versions underpin these manufacturer claims. The Montana trails Niagara by 64 litres of bed volume but adds cargo-management features. Fiat already sells a 48-volt mild-hybrid Toro trim; Renault has yet to publish fuel figures for its future hybrid.
Specifically, the Toro Endurance's 176 cv exceeds Niagara's Brazilian advertised output by 18 cv. Vehicle mass, gearing and load can change the result in motion. Check acceleration alongside payload and available four-wheel drive during a back-to-back drive.
Does the cabin deliver the SUV promise?
Renault pairs a 10.1-inch centre display with a 10.2-inch instrument panel. OpenR Link with Google built-in provides maps and apps, while Google Gemini handles voice commands. Available equipment includes wireless charging, Multi-Sense settings and up to 48 ambient-light colours.
The equipment list reaches 26 driver-assistance functions, including adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, emergency braking, blind-spot warning and a 360-degree camera. Trim determines availability. A camera can ease parking around the bed, but drivers must still check their surroundings.
Renault lists 35 litres of concealed storage and a cooled centre-console compartment. Buyers can keep valuables away from cargo in the bed. Generous rear-seat space and electric driver's-seat adjustment target daily family use.
Built in Argentina for regional demand
Santa Isabel assembles Niagara for markets led by Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. Renault reports nearly 800,000 km of testing across those countries, plus checks at European centres. Heat, rough roads and repeated loading test cooling, chassis tuning and cabin hardware.
Renault cites more than 250,000 Oroch sales since 2016 as regional experience. Niagara adds SUV-grade displays and driver aids to an open bed. Its RGMP platform also supports Renault's goal of 50% electrified sales outside Europe by 2030.
Niagara opens Renault's plan for 14 new models outside Europe by 2030. Buyers increasingly want one pickup for work and family travel. Pricing, local delivery dates and version-specific fuel economy will decide its value against the Toro's higher published payload. For now, the 938-litre bed and optional four-wheel drive give Latin American buyers two concrete reasons to consider Niagara.
