Citroen strengthened its position in Italy during August 2026, supported by higher passenger-car volumes, stronger private demand and another impressive result for the Citroen C3. According to Dataforce figures, the brand captured 3.6% of the Italian vehicle market, up 0.1 percentage points from August 2025.
Volumes climbed 7% across the total market. Specifically, Citroen increased passenger-car registrations by 11% and gained 0.3 percentage points of market share within that category. Those results carry extra weight because August typically produces lower Italian registration volumes than busier spring and autumn months.
Citroen August 2026 Sales Results
| Italian market metric | August 2026 result | Change from August 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Total Citroen market share | 3.6% | +0.1 points |
| Total registration volume | Not disclosed | +7% |
| Passenger-car market share | Not disclosed | +0.3 points |
| Passenger-car volume | Not disclosed | +11% |

| Private-channel share | Not disclosed | +0.1 points |
Looking at the data, private customers supplied much of the momentum. Citroen raised B2C volumes by 6% and increased its private-channel share by 0.1 percentage points. Retail demand usually provides a clearer indication of customer interest than rental or manufacturer-supported fleet registrations because individual buyers make decisions around price, running costs and usability.
Citroen C3 Becomes Italy's Petrol Leader
The new Citroen C3 ranked as Italy's third-best-selling passenger car overall in August. It also secured first place among all petrol-powered models, giving Citroen a high-volume entry point into the country's competitive B-segment.
Its technical package targets urban buyers directly. The C3 measures 4,015 mm (158.1 inches) long, 1,755 mm (69.1 inches) wide and 1,577 mm (62.1 inches) tall, while its 2,540 mm (100-inch) wheelbase supports useful cabin space. A 310-litre boot adds enough capacity for weekly shopping or compact family luggage.
| C3 specification | Petrol C3 | Citroen e-C3 |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | 1.2-litre turbo petrol | Permanent-magnet electric motor |
| Maximum output | 74 kW/100 hp | 83 kW/113 hp |
| Transmission | 6-speed manual | Single-speed |
| Battery capacity | N/A | 44 kWh |
| WLTP range | N/A | Up to 320 km |
| Maximum DC charging | N/A | 100 kW |
| 20-80% DC charging | N/A | About 26 minutes |
| Boot capacity | 310 litres | 310 litres |
How the e-C3 Supports Citroen's Strategy
The Citroen e-C3 gives the same basic body package a fully electric drivetrain. Its 44 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplies up to 320 km of WLTP range, while the 83 kW motor drives the front wheels. In addition, 100 kW DC charging allows a 20-80% session in roughly 26 minutes under suitable conditions.
From an expert perspective, Citroen does not need the e-C3 to replace petrol demand immediately. The company can attract cost-conscious buyers with the petrol C3 while offering an accessible electric alternative through the same dealer network and familiar model name. Consequently, the C3 family can capture customers at different stages of Europe's powertrain transition.
C3 Aircross and Commercial Vehicles Add Volume
The Citroen C3 Aircross gained 0.4 percentage points in August and 1.6 points across the first eight months of 2026. Its 4,390 mm (172.8-inch) body and available seven-seat cabin extend Citroen's reach into the family SUV sector.
Commercial vehicles also recorded gains:
- Citroen Berlingo increased its segment share by 1.2 points.
- Jumpy gained 0.5 points.
- Jumper advanced by 2.9 points.
Pro-Tip: Which C3 Powertrain Suits an Italian Urban Driver?
Choose the petrol C3 if purchase price, unrestricted long-distance travel and rapid refuelling carry the most weight. Choose the e-C3 if you can charge at home, cover predictable daily distances and want lower urban energy costs. Check local electricity tariffs, annual mileage and public-charging fees before comparing monthly payments.
