Ford E-Transit Custom: The Most Advanced and Capable Electric Van in the Market

Ford E-Transit Custom

Ford E-Transit Custom is the all-electric version of Europe’s best-selling van, designed to offer uncompromised capability, new customer experiences, and full Ford Pro support. With a targeted range of 236 miles, fast charging ability, and innovative digital solutions, the E-Transit Custom is set to spark the EV revolution for European small businesses.

What is the Ford E-Transit Custom?

The E-Transit Custom is the electric successor to the Ford Transit Custom, the most popular commercial vehicle in Europe. It is part of Ford’s plan to electrify its entire commercial vehicle range by 2024 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The E-Transit Custom is powered by a next-generation electric powertrain that delivers 181 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It has a 67 kWh battery pack that enables a targeted range of 236 miles on a single charge and can be recharged from 15% to 80% in 34 minutes using a 115 kW fast charger.

The E-Transit Custom offers outstanding performance for a range of customer needs, with a payload capacity of up to 1,100 kg, a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg, and a load volume of up to 6.8 cubic meters. It also features a ground-up design that includes digital solutions to support multi-drop delivery, cab, and load compartment access, as well as a “Mobile Office” workspace.

What are the benefits of the Ford E-Transit Custom?

The E-Transit Custom is designed to help small businesses reduce the cost of ownership, work more effectively, and simplify the transition to electric vehicles. Some of the benefits include:

  • Lower operating costs: The E-Transit Custom has an estimated 40% lower scheduled maintenance costs than the diesel-powered Ford Transit Custom and can save up to $1,400 per year in fuel costs, based on an annual mileage of 12,000 miles and an electricity price of $0.15 per kWh.
  • Higher productivity: The E-Transit Custom is equipped with Ford Pro’s digital ecosystem of software and services, such as Ford Telematics, Ford Pass Pro, and Ford Pro 360, that help businesses optimize vehicle utilization, monitor vehicle health, manage charging, and access over-the-air updates. The E-Transit Custom also offers industry-first customer experiences based on cloud connectivity and digital technologies, such as Intelligent Range, which calculates the remaining range based on factors such as payload, weather, and driving behavior, and Pro Power Onboard, which provides up to 2.3 kW of power for tools and equipment.
  • Easier transition: The E-Transit Custom is supported by Ford Pro’s end-to-end solutions to manage and optimize charging, such as Ford Pro Charging, which provides access to over 160,000 public charging points in Europe, and Ford Pro Home Charging, which offers a smart wallbox for faster and more convenient home charging. Ford Pro also provides dedicated electric vehicle specialists, training, and financing options to help customers make the switch to electric vehicles.

How does the Ford E-Transit Custom compare to other electric vans?

The E-Transit Custom is one of the most advanced and capable electric vans in the market, offering a competitive edge over its rivals in terms of range, performance, and customer experience. Here is a comparison table with some of the other electric vans in the same segment:

ModelRangePowerTorquePayloadTowingPrice
Ford E-Transit Custom236 miles181 hp310 lb-ft1,100 kg2,000 kg$60,000 (est.)
Opel Vivaro-e205 miles134 hp192 lb-ft1,226 kg1,000 kg$46,000

Maxus e Deliver 3151 miles121 hp184 lb-ft905 kgN/A$37,000

The Ford E-Transit Custom has the longest range and the highest power, torque, and towing capacity among its competitors while offering a similar payload capacity and a reasonable price. The E-Transit Custom also has the advantage of Ford Pro’s digital ecosystem and customer experiences, which are not matched by any other electric van in the market.

When and where can I buy the Ford E-Transit Custom?

The E-Transit Custom is expected to go on sale in late 2023, with production starting in autumn 2023 at Ford Otosan’s joint venture plant in Kocaeli, Turkey, following a $2 billion facilities investment. The E-Transit Custom will be available in 25 markets across Europe, including the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy.

The E-Transit Custom will be offered in two wheelbase lengths, two roof heights, and three body styles: van, double-cab-in-van, and kombi. It will also have a range of trim levels and options to suit different customer preferences and needs.

The E-Transit Custom will have a starting price of around $60,000, excluding VAT and government incentives. Ford Pro will also provide flexible financing options and service plans to make the E-Transit Custom more affordable and accessible for small businesses.
