Kia EV4 Sedan & Hatchback: What to Expect from This Budget-Friendly EV in 2025

Kia EV4 Sedan & Hatchback

Kia has pulled the covers off the EV4, an all-new electric vehicle designed to fill the gap between the smaller EV3 and the more premium EV6. Unlike its crossover-focused siblings, the EV4 brings sedan and hatchback body styles to the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) lineup, providing an electric alternative to traditional compact sedans.

With Kia’s aggressive electrification strategy aiming for 1.6 million EV sales by 2030, the EV4 plays a critical role in expanding the company’s market share. This model blends affordability with innovation, offering advanced styling, strong performance potential, and modern technology at a price point that could make it one of the most accessible options in Kia’s EV range.

Distinctive Design: Where Sharp Meets Sleek

The 2025 Kia EV4 continues the brand’s “Opposites United” design philosophy, which juxtaposes contrasting elements to create a striking, futuristic aesthetic. Unlike the more fluid, curvy styling of the EV6, the EV4 features a boxier, more angular silhouette, reminiscent of classic sedans but with modern touches that make it stand out.

Key exterior highlights include:

  • Fastback-Inspired Roofline – The sedan version incorporates a gently sloping rear roof, improving aerodynamics and giving it a sportier look.
  • Star Map Lighting Signature – The vertically stacked LED headlights and a thin, connected light bar at the rear add a high-tech, sophisticated appearance.
  • Muscular Wheel Arches – These add a sense of strength and stability, setting the EV4 apart from traditional compact sedans.
  • GT-Line Sportiness – The GT-Line variant receives performance-inspired styling, including wing-shaped bumpers, blacked-out trim elements, and striking 19-inch wheels with a unique geometric pattern.

The hatchback version shares these core design elements but adopts a more upright rear end, maximizing cargo space while maintaining a sporty profile. The addition of a roof-mounted spoiler further enhances aerodynamics and aesthetic appeal.

Performance: What to Expect from Kia’s Electric Sedan

While Kia has not yet confirmed the full range of specifications for the EV4, details from its E-GMP platform siblings provide strong hints about its potential.

  • Battery Options: The EV4 is expected to come with two battery pack choices—a standard 58 kWh pack and an optional long-range 77.4 kWh pack. These options will likely provide an estimated range between 250 to 370 miles (WLTP), depending on configuration.
  • Motor Configurations: A single-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup is expected as standard, while a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant could be available in higher trims, delivering more power and faster acceleration.
  • Charging Capabilities: Like other E-GMP models, the EV4 should support 800V ultra-fast charging, enabling a 10-80% charge in around 18 minutes using a high-speed DC fast charger.

Given Kia’s success with performance-focused EVs like the EV6 GT, an EV4 GT variant could emerge later with over 400 horsepower, placing it in competition with the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Hyundai Ioniq 6 AWD.

Technology and Interior Features

Kia has yet to release full interior images, but industry insights suggest a cabin focused on modernity, sustainability, and user convenience. The design is expected to be minimalistic, with advanced digital interfaces and eco-friendly materials.

Anticipated interior highlights include:

  • Dual 12.3-inch Displays – A fully digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen will likely be combined under a single curved panel, similar to the EV6 and EV9.
  • 5-inch Climate Control Display – A separate touchscreen for HVAC controls, reducing button clutter while maintaining intuitive usability.
  • Recycled and Vegan Materials – Kia has made sustainability a priority, meaning seats, dashboard elements, and door trims may incorporate recycled plastics, plant-based leather, and eco-conscious textiles.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – Expect Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) among the available safety and convenience features.

A focus on cabin space and practicality could make the EV4 sedan and hatchback strong competitors against the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Tesla Model 3, and Polestar 2.

Affordability and Competitive Positioning

The EV4 is expected to be one of the most budget-friendly models in Kia’s electric lineup, positioned below the EV6 but above the EV3 in terms of pricing.

  • Projected Starting Price: $30,000–$40,000 depending on the market and battery configuration.
  • Competitive Rivals: Tesla Model 3, Volkswagen ID.7, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and the upcoming Chevrolet Equinox EV.
  • Production and Release: Kia will manufacture the EV4 at its Autoland Gwangmyeong Plant 2, with mass production beginning in March 2025 and an annual production target of 70,000 units.

This pricing structure would make the EV4 one of the most accessible long-range EVs on the market, appealing to drivers looking for a balance of affordability, practicality, and cutting-edge design.

Why the Kia EV4 Matters

The 2025 Kia EV4 arrives at a crucial time when compact electric sedans are gaining traction as viable alternatives to gasoline-powered models. With major automakers pivoting toward electrification, Kia’s move to offer a stylish, feature-rich, and competitively priced sedan and hatchback strengthens its position in the evolving EV segment.

If the EV4 delivers on range, charging speed, and pricing expectations, it could become a top choice for first-time EV buyers and those seeking an alternative to Tesla’s Model 3 without the premium price tag.
