2024 Toyota Sienna: The Hybrid Minivan That Does It All

If you are looking for a family-friendly minivan that can handle your daily needs and occasional adventures, the 2024 Toyota Sienna might be the perfect choice for you. The Sienna is a hybrid minivan that offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, a smooth and quiet ride, a reliable and efficient performance, and a wide range of features and options. We will review the 2024 Toyota Sienna in detail, covering its specifications, trim levels, pricing, competitors, and alternatives.

Specifications

The 2024 Toyota Sienna is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors that deliver a combined output of 245 horsepower. The hybrid system allows the Sienna to achieve an EPA-estimated 36 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway for the front-wheel drive models, and 35 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway for the all-wheel drive models. These are impressive numbers for a large and heavy vehicle that can seat up to eight passengers and carry up to 101 cubic feet of cargo.

The Sienna also offers a smooth and quiet ride thanks to its well-tuned suspension, its noise-reducing materials, and its active noise-cancellation system. The steering is light and responsive, and the brakes are strong and smooth. The Sienna is not a fast or agile vehicle, but it is easy and pleasant to drive in most situations.

The Sienna's cabin is one of its main strengths, as it offers a spacious and comfortable environment for both the driver and the passengers. The front seats are supportive and adjustable, with available heating, ventilation, and memory functions. The second-row seats are either captain's chairs or bench seats, depending on the trim level, and they can slide forward and backward to adjust legroom. The third-row seats are split-folding and can be stowed away with a simple pull of a lever. The Sienna also offers plenty of storage spaces, cupholders, USB ports, and power outlets throughout the cabin.

The Sienna's infotainment system consists of a 9-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The system is easy to use and responsive, and it also features physical knobs and buttons for volume and climate control. The Sienna also offers a 12-speaker JBL sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system with an 11.6-inch display, a wireless charging pad, a head-up display, a digital rearview mirror, and a surround-view camera system as optional or standard features on higher trim levels.

The Sienna's safety features include Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which is a suite of driver-assist technologies that consists of adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, road-sign recognition, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert automatic high beams and rear-seat reminder. The Sienna also offers front and rear parking sensors, rear automatic braking, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights, and a bird's-eye view parking system as optional or standard features on higher trim levels.

Trim Levels

The 2024 Toyota Sienna is available in five trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE Limited, and Platinum. The LE trim starts at $38,580 and comes with standard features such as LED headlights and taillights, heated side mirrors, roof rails, power-sliding doors, tri-zone automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, eight-way power driver seat, second-row bench seat, 60/40 split-folding third-row seat, keyless entry and ignition 9-inch touchscreen six-speaker sound system and Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.

The XLE trim starts at $41,980 and adds features such as power liftgate, sunroof, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, four-way power passenger seat, second-row captain's chairs, auto-dimming rearview mirror, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The XSE trim starts at $44,280 and adds features such as 20-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension, sportier front and rear bumpers, black exterior accents, LED fog lights, a premium audio system with navigation, wireless charging pad, and a digital rearview mirror. For 2024, the XSE trim also offers a new Premium package that costs $3,000 and includes leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a power driver seat with memory, power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel with memory, heated side mirrors with memory, puddle lamps, orange contrast stitching, and a 10-inch head-up display.

The Limited trim starts at $51,280 and adds features such as 18-inch wheels, chrome exterior accents, hands-free power liftgate, quad-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, 10-inch head-up display, 12-speaker JBL sound system, rear-seat entertainment system with an 11.6-inch display, and front and rear parking sensors.

The Platinum trim starts at $54 580 and adds features such as adaptive headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a bird's-eye view parking system, rear automatic braking, heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, power third-row seat, and a surround-view camera system.

All trim levels can be equipped with all-wheel drive for an extra $760, except for the Platinum trim, which comes standard with all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system uses a third electric motor to power the rear wheels, providing extra traction and stability in slippery conditions.

Competitors and Alternatives

The 2024 Toyota Sienna faces some tough competition in the minivan segment, which includes the following models:

  • The Honda Odyssey is one of the most popular family-friendly minivans in the market, offering a spacious and versatile cabin, a smooth and powerful V6 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a host of advanced safety and technology features. The Odyssey also has a unique feature called Magic Slide, which allows the second-row seats to move sideways for easier access to the third row. The Odyssey starts at $33,265 and has a fuel economy rating of 19/28/23 mpg city/highway/combined.
  • The Chrysler Pacifica is another strong contender in the minivan segment, offering a stylish and upscale cabin, a smooth and refined V6 engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and an available plug-in hybrid option that can travel up to 32 miles on electric power alone. The Pacifica also has a feature called Stow 'n Go, which allows the second and third-row seats to fold flat into the floor for more cargo space. The Pacifica starts at $36,540 and has a fuel economy rating of 19/28/23 mpg city/highway/combined for the gas model and 82 MPGe for the hybrid model.
  • The Kia Carnival is a newcomer in the minivan segment, replacing the Kia Sedona. The Carnival offers a spacious and luxurious cabin, a powerful and responsive V6 engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a host of standard and available safety and technology features. The Carnival also has a feature called VIP Lounge Seating, which allows the second-row seats to recline and slide forward with leg rests for maximum comfort. The Carnival starts at $32,100 and has a fuel economy rating of 19/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined.

Some alternatives to the Toyota Sienna that are not minivans but still offer similar levels of space, comfort, and practicality are:

  • The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is a midsize SUV that shares the same hybrid powertrain as the Sienna, offering similar performance and efficiency. The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander can seat up to eight passengers and has up to 84.3 cubic feet of cargo space. It also offers standard all-wheel drive, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+.
  • The Ford Transit Connect Wagon is a compact van that offers seating for up to seven passengers and up to 106 cubic feet of cargo space. It also offers two engine options: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 162 horsepower or a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 169 horsepower. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Ford Transit Connect Wagon also offers standard forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Transit Connect Wagon starts at $28,795 and has a fuel economy rating of 24/29/26 mpg city/highway/combined for the gas model.
  • The Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van is a midsize van that offers seating for up to eight passengers and up to 38 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. It also offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Metris Passenger Van also offers standard crosswind assist, attention assist, load-adaptive stability control, hill-start assist, and brake assist. The Metris Passenger Van starts at $36,840 and has a fuel economy rating of 19/23/21 mpg city/highway/combined.
