Cyclists have been able to rely for years on Garmin's tried-and-true Varia technology, which provides dependable warnings when automobiles are coming from behind. However, Garmin is releasing an innovation with the Varia RCT715, which, in addition to radar technology and integrated rear light, also features a dashcam for the first time, making it a first for the company. Whether day or night, this three-way combo gives you an even better sense of security and overview of the situation.
If an issue occurs, you can rely on the Garmin Varia RCT715: The built-in dash cam will automatically save video clips before, during, and after any incident, it captures while constantly recording the journey. This feature is only activated if the worst-case scenario occurs. Furthermore, an autonomous accident detection system has been included in the Varia RCT715. By capturing videos at one of two different quality settings, several camera modes assist in extending the battery's life (1080p or 720p). The camera may be set to run constantly or operate in radar mode to save battery life on longer excursions. Both of these options are available. The video recording does not begin until the radar identifies a moving vehicle.
In addition to its use as a dashboard camera, the Garmin Varia RCT715 also serves as a rear light and has the radar function seen on other Garmin Varia devices. These features contribute to an increased level of road safety: Using radar technology, approaching cars may be seen from a distance of up to 140 meters away early in the detection process. The auditory and visual alarms are then presented on relevant Garmin Edge bike computers, wearables, or smartphones running the Garmin Varia app. Additionally, the signals may be incorporated into suitable third-party applications such as "Ride with GPS."
When the bike rider is at a standstill, the Garmin Varia app displays a live video that assists with adequately installing the camera and positioning the bike. After the trip is over, the stored recordings may also be uploaded to the smartphone and listened to using the corresponding app on the device. Longer trips are also possible because of the camera's extended battery life, which allows it to capture 1080p video for up to four hours in continuous light mode and up to six hours in flashing light mode. In addition, because of its compact build and innovative mount, the Garmin Varia RCT715 may be installed on round, aero, or D-shaped seat posts without any additional tools.
