The Czech automaker offers extra equipment for its Skoda Kamiq and Skoda Scala models in Denmark to celebrate its long-running partnership with the world’s biggest bike race. The Tour de France is a showcase of human endurance and athleticism, automotive innovation, and reliability. For the past 20 years, Skoda has been the main sponsor and official vehicle partner of the prestigious cycling event, providing hundreds of cars for the organizers, teams, media and guests.
This year, Skoda is commemorating its anniversary with special edition models of its Kamiq and Scala vehicles in Denmark, where the Tour de France will start on July 1, 2023. The campaign models come with extra equipment worth up to DKK 31,000 ($4,600) at no additional cost, as well as accessory packages for existing owners.
“Skoda has a long history and passion for cycling, dating back to our origins as a bicycle manufacturer in 1895,” said Thomas Schäfer, Skoda’s chief executive officer. “We are proud to support the Tour de France for two decades and to offer our customers in Denmark these attractive models that reflect our commitment to mobility, sustainability and innovation.”
Kamiq Tour de France
The Kamiq Tour de France is a compact SUV that combines practicality, comfort and style. It features a 2-zone Climatronic air conditioning system, dynamic cruise control, Digital Cockpit, and Travel Assist, which can automatically stop and start the car, keep it in the lane and follow other cars in traffic.
It also has an 8-inch Bolero infotainment system with Apple CarPlay compatibility, a rear parking sensor, and Sunset - dark-tinted rear windows. The equipment has a value of DKK 31,000 ($4,600), and prices start at DKK 259,995 ($38,600) for a Kamiq Tour de France 1.0 TSI 95 hp.
Scala Tour de France
The Skoda Scala Tour de France is a hatchback that offers spaciousness, functionality and elegance. It has the same features as the Kamiq Tour de France, plus 16-inch Sargas alloy wheels that add a touch of sportiness. The equipment has a value of DKK 27,000 ($4,000), and prices start at DKK 239,995 ($35,600) for a Scala Tour de France 1.0 TSI 95 hp.
Tour de France Accessory Packs
Skoda dealers in Denmark are also offering accessory packs for the Kamiq and Scala owners who want to enhance their vehicles with some Tour de France flair. The packs include rubber mats, boot mats, a comfort package, a Prestige mat set, roof bars, and a bag for the roof bars.
The large Tour de France accessory package costs DKK 4,695 ($700) and the small one costs DKK 1,895 ($280) for the Scala and DKK 1,995 ($300) for the Kamiq. The accessory packs are available for everyone with Kamiq or Scala models, regardless of whether they purchase a promotional model or not.
The campaign models and accessory packs are part of Skoda’s Tour de France days that run throughout the duration of the race, from July 1 to July 24. Skoda dealers across Denmark will welcome customers with special offers and activities related to cycling and the Tour de France.
Skoda expects to sell about 500 units of the Kamiq Tour de France and about 400 units of the Scala Tour de France in Denmark this year. The company hopes that these models will help boost its market share in the country, which was 6.3 percent in 2022.
Skoda is sponsoring the Tour de France in Denmark and other countries, such as Belgium, Switzerland, and France. The company will also provide more than 250 vehicles for various purposes during the event, including the race director’s distinctive red Skoda Enyaq electric SUV.
Skoda’s involvement in the Tour de France is part of its broader strategy to promote its brand values and products in key markets, especially Europe. The company aims to increase its sales and profitability by offering a diverse vehicle portfolio that caters to different customer needs and preferences, from SUVs and hatchbacks to electric and hybrid models.
Skoda also plans to launch several new models in the next few years, including the Skoda Kushaq, a compact SUV for the Indian market; the Skoda Slavia, a sedan for the Chinese market; and the Skoda Fabia, a small car for the European market. The company expects to sell more than 1.5 million vehicles worldwide by 2025.
“We are confident that our products and services will continue to appeal to our customers and that our partnership with the Tour de France will strengthen our brand image and reputation,” Mr. Schäfer said. “We look forward to celebrating our 20th anniversary with our fans and customers in Denmark and worldwide.”
