Nissan has been busy revamping its lineup of vehicles, especially in the US market. The Japanese automaker has recently introduced the redesigned Rogue, Pathfinder, and Z models, as well as the all-electric Ariya crossover. Now, it鈥檚 time for the Frontier, Nissan鈥檚 midsize pickup truck, to get a makeover.
The Nissan Frontier has been around since 1997, and the current generation dates back to 2004. That makes it one of the oldest vehicles on the market and one that has been losing ground to newer and more advanced competitors like the Toyota Tacoma, the Ford Ranger, and the Jeep Gladiator.
But Nissan is not giving up on the Frontier. In fact, it鈥檚 giving it a new lease of life with a major redesign for the 2024 model year. The new Nissan Frontier boasts a more modern and rugged exterior, a more refined and spacious interior, and a more powerful and efficient engine.
A special edition for a special driver
But that鈥檚 not all. Nissan is also launching a special edition of the Nissan Frontier called the Forsberg Edition package. This package is named after Chris Forsberg, a professional drift racer and a three-time Formula Drift champion. Forsberg has been a Nissan brand ambassador for over a decade, and he drives a Nissan 370Z in his competitions.
The Nissan Frontier Forsberg Edition package is designed to reflect Forsberg鈥檚 passion for driving and his adventurous lifestyle. It adds some unique features and accessories to the Frontier, such as:
- A custom bed rack with a rooftop tent, a retractable awning, and a solar panel
- A front bumper with a winch, a skid plate, and LED lights
- A rear bumper with a swing-out tire carrier and a jerry can holder
- A snorkel for improved engine airflow
- A suspension lift kit and 17-inch wheels with off-road tires
- A two-tone paint scheme with Forsberg鈥檚 signature and logo
- A leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob with red stitching
- A numbered plaque on the dashboard
The Nissan Frontier Forsberg Edition package is available on the Frontier PRO-4X, the most off-road capable trim level of the Frontier. The PRO-4X comes with a standard four-wheel drive system, an electronic locking rear differential, Bilstein shocks, and hill descent control.
The package is limited to 500 units and will cost $9,995 on top of the base price of the Frontier PRO-4X, which starts at $37,240. That means the Forsberg Edition package will set you back at least $47,235, excluding destination and handling fees.
A new frontier for Nissan
The Frontier is not the only Nissan vehicle that will debut at the Chicago Auto Show, which runs from February 10 to February 19. Nissan will also showcase the Nissan Ariya, its first all-electric crossover, which is expected to go on sale in the US later this year.
The Ariya is a sleek, futuristic-looking vehicle with a spacious, minimalist interior. It will offer two battery options, a 63 kWh and an 87 kWh, and two drivetrain options, a front-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive. The Ariya will have a range of up to 300 miles, and a power output of up to 389 horsepower.
The Ariya will also feature Nissan鈥檚 latest technology, such as the ProPILOT Assist 2.0, which is a semi-autonomous driving system that can handle highway driving, lane changes, and overtaking. The Ariya will also have a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a head-up display.
The Ariya will compete with other electric crossovers, such as the Tesla Model Y, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the Volkswagen ID.4. The Ariya will have a starting price of around $40,000 before any federal or state incentives.
Nissan hopes that the Frontier and the Ariya will help boost its sales and image in the US, where it has been struggling in recent years. The company has been facing declining market share, aging products, and a scandal involving its former chairman, Carlos Ghosn, who fled Japan in 2019 after being accused of financial misconduct.
The Frontier and the Ariya are part of this plan, and they represent a new frontier for Nissan, one that is more innovative, competitive, and exciting.
