The Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 5023 was chosen to transport a 17-meter Christmas tree from Paderborn to Berlin as part of a charity campaign organized by the German Association of Towns and Municipalities (DStGB) and the German Association of Local Utilities (VKU). The Christmas tree was donated by the city of Paderborn and the Paderborn Forest District and was selected from a forest near Bad Lippspringe. The tree was cut down on November 16, 2023, and was loaded onto a low-loader trailer attached to the Unimog U 5023. The tree weighed about 2.5 tonnes and had a diameter of 80 cm at the base.
