At the Brussels Motor Show, the new Mazda MX-30 R-EV makes its world debut. Mazda's latest model is a one-of-a-kind plug-in hybrid driven by a 170 hp electric motor and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. Still, it gains extra power and range owing to a wholly new Wankel engine coupled to a generator. A totally electric automobile's smooth and direct driving experience is preserved because the car is powered only by an electric motor.
According to WLTP, the Mazda MX-30 RE-V plug-in hybrid has an electric range of 85 kilometers in mixed driving, which is sufficient for most people's everyday commuting needs. The 50-liter gasoline tank offers the automobile a highly competitive total range. The Mazda MX-30 R-EV includes an 11 kW 3-phase onboard charger and a 36 kW fast charger (DC).
The newly built petrol engine is a tiny, direct-injected, single-disc 830 cm3 Wankel engine with a rev range of 2,500 - 4,700 rpm that delivers a maximum of 55 kW. Mazda picked the Wankel engine for its compact size and vibration-free running culture. It has also improved the seals around the rotor to ensure excellent operational reliability over the vehicle's life.
The Mazda MX-30 R-EV will be sold alongside the Mazda MX-30 (the electric car) and will be available in two trim levels: Exclusive-line and Makoto. The Mazda MX-30 R-EV will also receive a unique model known as "Edition R," based on a top-equipped Makoto and features its two-tone paint (Jet Black / Maroon Rouge) and some special interior touches. The first vehicles will be available at Mazda dealerships in early summer 2023.
