Toyota Gazoo Racing has revealed the upgraded Toyota GR86 for Japan, with dealers opening order books on August 28, 2026. Toyota skipped a horsepower chase and concentrated on driver inputs: the accelerator, electric power steering, and six-speed manual gearbox. Solid Gray paint also returns after a roughly six-month run on the previous Toyota 86 in 2017.
Toyota has delivered about 110,000 GR86s since 2021, making it the most widely delivered model in Toyota's GR-exclusive lineup.

The 2.4-Liter Boxer Engine Carries Over
The 2.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine still produces 235 PS at 7,000 rpm and 250 Nm at 3,700 rpm. In addition, Toyota retains rear-wheel drive, D-4S direct-and-port fuel injection, and six-speed manual or automatic gearboxes.

Small Changes Target Corner Entry and Exit
Specifically, engineers remapped the throttle for a more linear link between pedal travel and rear-axle torque. Drivers should meter acceleration more precisely at corner exit and on wet or snow-covered roads.
Toyota also retuned the electric power steering with lessons from Super Taikyu racing. The software limits steering wobble through fast bends and across rough surfaces, helping the driver hold a chosen line. The manual gearbox gains a shift-interlock chamfer widened by 0.5 mm, which guides fifth-to-fourth downshifts more cleanly during braking.

Triple-Camera EyeSight Expands the View
The new triple-camera EyeSight system pairs wide-angle stereo cameras with an ultra-wide-angle monocular camera. Consequently, the low-slung coupe gains broader forward coverage for pre-collision braking, front-side pre-collision braking, and lane warnings.
The RZ cabin receives grippier switches with a low-reflectivity cast-iron-black finish. Buyers can also select a black-and-red interior that places red trim around the driver.
