2024 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport: Bigger, Bolder, and Better

2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Volkswagen has unveiled the refreshed 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport at the Chicago Auto Show, and they are more than just a facelift. The two SUVs have been updated with new exterior designs, improved interior materials, enhanced technology, and a more powerful engine. Here’s what you need to know about the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport.

New Look, New Attitude

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport have a sharper and more aggressive appearance than their predecessors. The front end features a new grille, bumper, and headlights, while the rear end has new taillights and a redesigned lower fascia. The SUVs also get new wheel designs and new color options, including Laguna Blue Metallic and King’s Red Metallic.

The 2024 Atlas Cross Sport, in particular, stands out with its sleek and sporty profile. The five-seater SUV has a fastback-style roofline, muscular fenders, and a wide stance. The Atlas Cross Sport also offers the R-Line trim, which adds a gloss black grille, 21-inch wheels, and R-Line badges.

More Power, More Fun

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport have ditched the optional 3.6-liter V6 engine and replaced it with a more potent 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The new engine delivers 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 18 horsepower and 15 lb-ft over the previous engine. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or 4Motion all-wheel drive.

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport also improved driving dynamics thanks to a revised suspension system, a new steering rack, and brake booster. The SUVs offer four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom. The 4Motion all-wheel drive system also has a Snow mode and an Off-Road mode for more challenging terrain.

More Comfort, More Convenience

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport have upgraded their interiors with new materials, features, and technology. The SUVs have a new dashboard, center console, and door panels, all made with soft-touch materials and contrast stitching. The seats are also more comfortable and supportive, with heating and ventilation for the front seats and heating for the rear seats.

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport also have a new 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and six USB-C ports with fast charging capability. The SUVs also have a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, which can be customized with different themes and information. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, a Fender premium sound system, and a hands-free power liftgate.

More Safety, More Peace of Mind

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport have enhanced their safety and driver-assistance features, making them more reliable and secure. The SUVs come standard with IQ.DRIVE, Volkswagen’s suite of advanced technologies, which includes:

  • Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring
  • Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert
  • Lane Keeping System and Lane Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go
  • Travel Assist and Emergency Assist
  • Park Assist and Park Distance Control
  • High Beam Control and Dynamic Road Sign Display

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport also have a new Head-Up Display, which projects key information onto the windshield, such as speed, navigation, and warnings. The SUVs also have a new Rear View Camera System, which uses multiple cameras to provide a 360-degree view of the surroundings.

More Space, More Versatility

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport have plenty of space and versatility for passengers and cargo. The Atlas is a seven-seater SUV with a spacious and flexible cabin. The second-row seats can slide and tilt, while the third-row seats can fold flat. The Atlas has 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 55.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 96.8 cubic feet behind the first row.

The Atlas Cross Sport is a five-seater SUV with a larger cargo area and a more stylish tailgate. The rear seats can recline and fold flat, creating a flat load floor. The Atlas Cross Sport has 40.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 77.6 cubic feet behind the first row.

More Value, More Options

The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport have competitive pricing and a generous warranty. The Atlas starts at $38,995 for the base S trim and goes up to $54,195 for the top-of-the-line SEL Premium R-Line trim. The Atlas Cross Sport starts at $36,985 for the base S trim and goes up to $52,795 for the top-of-the-line SEL Premium R-Line trim. Both SUVs have a four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and two years of complimentary maintenance.

The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport also have many options and packages to suit different preferences and needs. Some of the available options and packages include:

  • SE with Technology package, which adds features such as a power driver’s seat, a remote start, a power liftgate, and 20-inch wheels
  • SEL package, which adds features such as a panoramic sunroof, a navigation system, a digital instrument cluster, and a heated steering wheel
