One of the most amazing features of the brand-new Renault Megane E-TECH Electric car is how peaceful it is inside. It's the next best thing to journeying in a cocoon. It is well shielded from outside disturbances, and electric motors are silent by design.
We replaced the two heaviest floor components with new cushioning foam to improve acoustics and free up space between the car's floor and battery. It's a one-piece design that completely encloses the battery and reduces noise levels in the cabin. This cocoon's interior takes on many of the characteristics of the genuine thing.
To create the latest system, the engineers at Renault took out the old soundproofing elements (including a lot of glue) from beneath the carpet and installed a new, proprietary cushioning foam under the floor panel of the new Megane E-TECH Electric car. The foam perfectly accommodates both the contour of the floor and the battery enclosure. It absorbs vibrations when squeezed, reducing the number of sound waves traveling through the floor and improving the sense of quiet in the cabin.
Numerous benefits can be attributed to the new Renault Megane E-TECH electric car's enhanced soundproofing:
- electric vehicles now have better soundproofing (-10dB)
- more room for travelers
- a decrease of more than 3 kilograms in weight and an increase in battery life.
The revolutionary foam also allowed for a thinner floor, which provided more legroom for passengers, and a lighter vehicle overall, which improved fuel economy and extended the vehicle's cruising distance. @via Renault.
