An estate car should carry the family luggage without looking like the luggage. The Opel STX Concept takes that brief seriously, pairing a low roofline with an upright rear and electric power. Opel showed it at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, offering European drivers a welcome idea: the family car still has options outside the SUV aisle.
What Is the Opel STX Concept?
STX means Sports Tourer eXperimental. Think of it as Opel's sketchbook for future estates and styling across its wider range.
The name connects with the Astra Sports Tourer, but Opel describes the STX as a design study. It has not announced a production launch or price in the material reviewed as of 31 October 2026. Admire the car; keep your deposit money in your pocket.
Electric Estate Design With a Practical Purpose
The taller Opel Vizor front panel carries slanted light strips around an illuminated lightning badge. Cameras replace conventional door mirrors, while glass sections stretch through the rear pillars towards the roof.
Those rear pillars offer a useful talking point. Opel's concept design chief, Florian Theis, told Auto&Design that the glass-and-metal arrangement helps rearward visibility and gives passengers a greater sense of space.
The steep rear also aims to preserve luggage room. However, Opel has not supplied a boot-capacity figure. A promising shape still needs the pushchair test.
Three details deserve attention:
- Active aerodynamics: moving rear pieces manage airflow as speed changes.
- Three-section alloy wheels: Opel pairs aerodynamic wheel designs with 22-inch Goodyear tyres.
- Low bodywork: Opel targets efficiency and stability during fast motorway driving.
Opel STX Specifications: What We Know
The available details describe the concept's intent, while leaving several buying questions open.
| Item | Details Opel has shared |
|---|---|
| Power source | Battery-electric |
| Driven wheels | All-wheel drive |
| Claimed top speed | Over 200 km/h, roughly 124 mph |
| Battery capacity and driving range | Opel has not published figures |
| Charging speed | Opel has not published figures |
| Production timing and price | Opel has not announced either |
Opel also points towards lightweight seats and cabin lighting ideas from earlier concepts. It has yet to provide a finished interior for buyers to assess.
Should You Wait for a Production STX?
If you need an electric estate soon, build your shortlist around cars you can order and test. The STX offers design clues rather than a delivery date.
Use three checks when judging any eventual showroom version:
- Compare usable boot space, rear-seat access and loading height.
- Look for motorway range tests and 10-80% charging times.
- Check tyre replacement costs before choosing large wheels.
The STX makes the electric estate look desirable. A future production car would need to make family life easier, too. Start with the boot, the charging stop and the monthly cost. The light show can wait.
