Mitsubishi Colt returns with a low price and high range

2024 Mitsubishi Colt

The Mitsubishi Colt is one of the most recognizable names in the automotive world. The compact hatchback has been around since 1962 and has sold over 5 million units worldwide. It has also been a pioneer in electric mobility, being the first mass-produced car to feature a lithium-ion battery in 2009.

Now, after a hiatus of eight years, the Mitsubishi Colt is making a comeback. The Japanese automaker has announced that it will launch a new generation of the Colt in Europe in 2023 to electrify its entire lineup by 2030.

The new Mitsubishi Colt will be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-B EV platform, which Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf also use. It will offer a range of up to 280 miles (450 km) on a single charge and a fast-charging capability that can replenish 80% of the battery in 30 minutes.

The new Mitsubishi Colt will also feature a sleek design inspired by the Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept car that Mitsubishi unveiled in 2017. It will have a sporty stance, LED headlights, and a distinctive grille that integrates the charging port. The interior will be spacious and modern, with a digital dashboard, a touchscreen infotainment system, and advanced driver-assistance systems.

But what makes the new Mitsubishi Colt so special is not just its technical specifications or its aesthetics. It is also its potential to disrupt the European electric car market, which is currently dominated by Volkswagen, Tesla, and Hyundai-Kia.

According to Mitsubishi, the 2024 Mitsubishi Colt will have a starting price of around $25,000 (€22,500), which is significantly lower than most of its competitors. For comparison, the Volkswagen ID.3 costs $36,000 (€32,500), the Tesla Model 3 costs $44,000 (€39,900), and the Hyundai Kona Electric costs $38,000 (€34,500).

The new Mitsubishi Colt will also benefit from Mitsubishi's reputation for reliability and durability, as well as its loyal customer base in Europe. Mitsubishi has been selling cars in Europe since 1975 and has established a strong presence in markets like Germany, France, Spain, and the UK. In fact, Mitsubishi was one of the few automakers that saw an increase in sales in Europe in 2020, despite the pandemic.

The new Colt will also appeal to customers who are looking for an affordable and practical electric car that can meet their daily needs. The Colt has always been known for its versatility and functionality, offering ample space for passengers and cargo and a smooth and comfortable ride.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Colt will also be environmentally friendly, emitting zero tailpipe emissions and using recycled materials in its production. Mitsubishi has said that it aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The new Colt is a revival of an iconic nameplate and a statement of Mitsubishi's commitment to electric mobility and sustainability. It is a car that could change the game for the auto industry and challenge the established players in the EV market.

The new Colt is expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2023 and go on sale later that year. It will be available in both left- and right-hand drive versions and will be offered in various colors and trim levels.

The new Mitsubishi Colt is a car that you want to take advantage of. It is a car that combines history and innovation, performance and efficiency, style, and substance. It is a car that could make you fall in love with electric driving all over again.
