BMW has announced the prices and features of its new 5 Series for the Mexican market, which includes two fully electric models: the i5 eDrive40 and the i5 M60 xDrive. The new 5 Series is a luxury midsize sedan that combines performance, comfort, and technology, and competes with other premium brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus.
The i5 eDrive40: The Entry-Level Electric 5 Series
The BMW i5 eDrive40 is the base model of the electric 5 Series, and it has a rear-wheel drive system powered by a single electric motor that produces 335 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The i5 eDrive40 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds and reach a top speed of 193 km/h. The battery capacity is 81.2 kWh, which allows a range of up to 582 km on a single charge, according to the WLTP cycle. The i5 eDrive40 also has a fast-charging capability that can replenish 80% of the battery in 31 minutes.
The i5 eDrive40 has a starting price of MXN 1,399,900, which is equivalent to $69,500. The standard equipment includes LED headlights and taillights, 19-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, a wireless charging pad, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a panoramic sunroof. The i5 eDrive40 also comes with a range of driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist, and a 360-degree camera.
The i5 M60 xDrive: The High-Performance Electric 5 Series
The i5 M60 xDrive is the top-of-the-line model of the electric 5 Series, and it has an all-wheel drive system powered by two electric motors that produce a combined output of 593 horsepower and 605 lb-ft of torque. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 230 km/h. The battery capacity is the same as the i5 eDrive40, but the range is slightly lower, at 453 km on a single charge, according to the WLTP cycle. The i5 M60 xDrive also has a fast-charging capability that can restore 80% of the battery in 35 minutes.
The BMW i5 M60 xDrive has a starting price of MXN 1,999,900, which is equivalent to $99,500. The standard equipment includes everything that the i5 eDrive40 has, plus some exclusive features, such as M Sport brakes, M Sport suspension, M Sport steering wheel, M Sport aerodynamic package, 20-inch alloy wheels, laser headlights, carbon fiber trim, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system. The i5 M60 xDrive also has a sportier driving mode called Boost that enhances the acceleration and the sound of the electric motors.
