Volkswagen has recently released corporate and core brand sales figures. Electric car sales have climbed dramatically in each scenario, but full-electric vehicle production is still ramping up. Volkswagen Sachsen is presently taking stock and presenting an outlook for 2022.
With 218,000 total electric vehicles manufactured in 2022, the Zwickau vehicle plant produced around 38,000 more automobiles than the previous year. "Despite the unpredictable supply environment, we were able to increase the number of vehicles produced," says Robert Janssen, CEO and Managing Director of Technology and Logistics at Volkswagen Sachsen. Therefore, kudos to the complete team for excellently managing the enormous problems caused by three practically contemporaneous crises.
According to the corporation, the average number of vehicles created in Zwickau is more than 1,400 electric cars per day - so many vehicles have never been manufactured in the vehicle facility. Further conversion measures are carried out in the summer to boost the daily yield from fall. "We have set ourselves the aim of exceeding the result from 2022 in terms of vehicles produced, depending on the continuing expansion of the e-mobility sector and the supply situation, even if the supply situation continues turbulent," Janssen said of the expectation for 2023.
In 2022, the Transparent Factory in Dresden produced over 6,500 units of the tiny Volkswagen ID3 battery car, 2,100 more than the previous year. The Transparent Factory is still Volkswagen's second largest national delivery facility, after the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, with 2,740 vehicles delivered. "With more than 81,000 visitors, twice as many people attended as in the previous year, which was influenced by many lockdowns. "4,000 guided tours in six languages were conducted, and 5,500 test drives were accomplished," according to the business.
Volkswagen Sachsen will prioritize the new Volkswagen ID3 in 2023. It stated that preparations were in full swing at the Zwickau and Dresden factories. The model, which has been overhauled on the outside and updated on the inside, is set to make its world debut in early March, with serial production beginning in the second quarter. Starting this year, the Wolfsburg plant will receive bodies from Zwickau to partially manufacture the Volkswagen ID3. Complete manufacture of the car will commence at Volkswagen's headquarters in 2024.
Volkswagen Sachsen is the Free State's largest private employer. Around 13,000 people are employed at the Zwickau, Chemnitz, and Dresden sites. Zwickau has the most employees, at 10,700. The Volkswagen ID3, ID4, ID5, Audi Q4 e-tron, Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, and Cupra Born are produced here. More than 11,000 bodies rolled off the assembly line in 2022, with the Bentley Bentayga in England and the Lamborghini Urus in Italy. Volkswagen manufactures gasoline direct injection engines and engine assemblies such as balancer shafts and integrated valve train modules at Chemnitz. Dresden employs 340 people, and the Volkswagen ID3 is built in tiny batches.
In 2022, the Volkswagen Group delivered 572,100 completely electric vehicles to consumers worldwide, a 26 percent increase over 2021. With about 330,000 units sold, the Volkswagen brand increased global sales of entirely electric cars by 23.6 percent over the previous year.
