The electric, hybrid, and gas vehicles increased their sales in May by 10.6%, compared to the same month of the previous year, after registering a total of 33,750 units (of which 32,525 units were passenger cars), according to the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC).
It should be noted that electric vehicles continue their upward trend and are once again positioned in May as the second purchase option above diesel (25,634 units).
If we focus solely on the market for purely electric vehicles with a Zero Emissions label, their sales increased by 12.6% in May after reaching 2,421 registered units. In addition, they represent 2.47% of the market share in the fifth month of the year. For its part, in the accumulated figure for the year, electric vehicles add up to 13,169 units sold, 65.3% more than in the same period last year. As a result, the share of electricity in the accumulated figure for the year is 3.5%.
José López-Tafall, general director of ANFAC, said: "The electrified vehicle is a reality in our market, but it is still a minority. The sector pushes with a wide range of electrified vehicles, but it must be responded to the same extent by the demand. Sales of electric vehicles have increased compared to the previous year, which is good news. However, its entry rate is still slow and below what is necessary to reach the milestone of 120,000 electrified passenger cars for this year, which will allow us to meet the European emission reduction requirements."
