Peugeot had a good year, especially in the field of electric vehicles. More than half of all new passenger cars registered in Germany were electric. This is a big jump from the year before, when only about a third of new cars were electric. Peugeot sold 45,220 new cars in the passenger car market and had a 1.7 percent market share.
Haico van der Luyt, the Managing Director of Peugeot Germany, said, "We are proud that our customers are so happy with the electric drives in 2022." 51% of the new Peugeot cars that were registered were electric. The number of new car registrations shows that customers want models with different types of engines. This makes us more likely to become an electric brand. We can also thank our dealer network for helping us do so well in sales this year in electric mobility. As long as we stick to our guidelines of Allure, Emotion, and Excellence, and as long as we work with our partners, we are confident about 2023."
Peugeot has seen a lot of growth in hybrid and electric vehicles. 51% of all Peugeot registered vehicles were hybrid or electric. There were 34 all-electric models and 17 plug-in hybrids among these. Even more, 78.9% of cars had electric drives in December. Of these, 55.3% were electric, and 23.6% were plug-in hybrids. In the field of electric vehicles, this makes the lion brand a strong import brand.
The fully electric versions of the Peugeot 208 and the Peugeot 2008 were very popular among new cars registered in 2022. The Peugeot 3008 and the Peugeot 308 were the third and fourth best-selling models in December 2022, which was a good month for sales.
By the middle of the second half of 2023, all Peugeot models will have at least one electric motor.
2022 was all about electric mobility, the development of technologies, and the design language for Peugeot. Since the new Peugeot 308 hit the market in January 2022, Peugeot has been showing the brand's new face and putting the new logo on the streets.
The new Peugeot 408, introduced at the end of 2022 and has been in the showrooms of Peugeot partners since January 2023, is the second model with the new logo.
The lion brand is also interested in making technologies better. Peugeot was successful in many ways, such as by improving the engine, battery, aerodynamics, weight optimization with the new EMP2 platform, and reducing friction losses.
The year 2023 will still be marked by electric vehicles and new ideas: With the new Peugeot Inception Concept, the company is showing a fully electric concept car with a unique look that will set the stage for future models.
