Amplify Cell Technologies Begins Construction of Mississippi Battery Cell Factory

Amplify Cell Technologies, a pioneering joint venture among Accelera, Daimler Trucks & Buses US Holding LLC, and PACCAR, has recently commenced construction on its state-of-the-art battery cell manufacturing plant in Marshall County, Mississippi. This groundbreaking project is set to significantly bolster the region’s economic landscape and play a crucial role in advancing the electric vehicle (EV) industry in North America.

A Landmark Development for Mississippi

Spanning 500 acres, the new facility will feature a two million square-foot, energy-efficient building designed to produce lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery cells. With an impressive annual manufacturing capacity of 21 gigawatt hours (GWh), the plant is poised to meet the rising demand for robust and cost-effective battery solutions in the commercial transportation sector. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, and the project is anticipated to generate over 2,000 manufacturing jobs, marking the largest payroll commitment in Mississippi's history.

“I am thrilled to be here with so many of our partners to break ground on this new battery cell manufacturing facility in Marshall County,” stated Kel Kearns, CEO of Amplify Cell Technologies. “United in the mission to decarbonize our highways and interstates, our founding partners are making a serious commitment. Marking the start of construction on site signifies this collective effort, and together we will lead the transformation of the commercial transportation industry.”

Economic and Environmental Impact

The facility’s groundbreaking ceremony was attended by notable figures including Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, and various local officials, all of whom underscored the project's significance for the state and the nation.

“Mississippi is incredibly excited to welcome this historic private sector investment from the new joint venture between Accelera, Daimler Truck, and PACCAR,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “This project is the largest payroll commitment in state history, and it will bring an incredible 2,000 new jobs to this community. This fantastic investment from these industry leaders will help to further charge Mississippi’s electric economy.”

Senator Hyde-Smith echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of domestic production of essential materials and technologies to meet evolving energy demands. “This joint venture is not only a major job booster for Mississippi, but sets an example for future endeavors in the transportation industry,” she noted. “It will increase competition in the market, boost the local economy, and provide jobs for our state.”

Senator Roger Wicker added, “This project will change thousands of lives in North Mississippi. Major development decisions are never made lightly, but Mississippi was chosen for this investment for a reason. Our business-friendly climate is attracting investment at a record level.”

Technological Advancements and Strategic Partnerships

The choice of LFP battery cells for the new facility is strategic, given their durability and cost-effectiveness. This initiative aims to localize the battery supply chain, ensuring it is more resilient and responsive to the needs of the burgeoning electric commercial vehicle market in North America.

The joint venture's financial commitment is substantial, with Accelera, Daimler Truck, and PACCAR collectively investing between $2 to $3 billion. Each partner holds a 30 percent stake in Amplify Cell Technologies, while EVE Energy, serving as the technology partner, holds a 10 percent stake. EVE Energy brings its cutting-edge expertise in battery cell design and manufacturing, reinforcing the venture's technological foundation.

Leading the Charge Toward Zero Emissions

The partners in Amplify Cell Technologies are united by a shared vision to lead the commercial vehicle industry’s transition to zero-emission technologies. This commitment aligns with global sustainability goals, such as those outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement, and reflects a broader industry trend toward reducing carbon footprints and promoting environmental stewardship.
