The initials "GSe" conjure up images of well-equipped and sporty Opel automobiles if you're familiar with the brand's lengthy history of manufacturing automobiles. Today, the German automaker formally announces the reintroduction and rebranding of GSe as a sub-brand to represent the company's electric flagship models. Electrifying the complete model lineup by 2024 is in keeping with Opel's declared objective of becoming a fully electric brand in Europe by 2028. The Opel GSe models used to stand for "Grand Sport Einspritzung" (Grand Sport Injection) when applied to cars like the Commodore GS/E and the Monza GSE. Future generations of the GSe will understand the term in a new way.
"I'm excited that the GSe brand will be revived as a sporty sub-brand of our premium offerings. Like with the introduction of Opel's new face Vizor grille, we were able to draw upon our extensive past for creative inspiration while adding a thoroughly contemporary spin." According to Opel CEO Florian Huettl, "the GSe brand will go on to represent not only aggressive and fun driving characteristics but also "Grand Sport Electric," which is in keeping with our ambitious objectives to become a fully electric brand."
Future GSe models, in addition to receiving aesthetic enhancements, will also benefit from chassis modifications that have been meticulously worked out to ensure enjoyable and engaging driving. The GSe will be an electric vehicle that provides a satisfying driving experience.
Opel has recently unveiled the Manta GSe, a contemporary take on the iconic Manta from the 1970s. This electrified reimagining of a gorgeous classic pays homage to the Manta A, which served as the design inspiration for the new Vizor grille at Opel. Like the GSe models, its purpose is to unite history, progress, and fun behind the wheel.
There are currently 12 electrified vehicles available, including the Opel Grandland Plug-in Hybrid, Opel Corsa-e, and the Opel Combo-e. By 2024, all Opel models will be required to have an electrified alternative, and one step further is the new Opel Astra GSe plug-in hybrid.
