Vauxhall Unveils the Mokka Coffe-E: The Ultimate Coffee Break for Electric Vehicle Enthusiasts

Vauxhall Unveils the Mokka Coffe-E: The Ultimate Coffee Break for Electric Vehicle Enthusiasts

Vauxhall has taken coffee culture to a whole new level with the unveiling of its Mokka Coffe-E, an innovative concept vehicle designed to provide a premium coffee experience while charging your electric car. This one-off version of the popular Mokka Electric takes Vauxhall’s commitment to convenience and sustainability and merges it with Britain’s deep love for coffee. With two integrated coffee machines, a milk steamer, grinder, and other barista tools, the Mokka Coffe-E offers electric vehicle (EV) drivers more than just a means of transportation—it creates an experience, ensuring that your charging stops are as refreshing as the ride itself.

A Coffee Lover's Dream on Wheels

The Vauxhall Mokka Coffe-E is built for the 80% of Vauxhall owners who, according to the brand’s research, are coffee drinkers. The concept was inspired by the insight that 64% of Vauxhall drivers enjoy at least one cup of coffee a day, while a significant number actively plan their trips around coffee stops. In response to this, Vauxhall created the Mokka Coffe-E as the ultimate solution for EV drivers who want their coffee fix during charging breaks.

The highlight of the Mokka Coffe-E is its dual coffee machines, capable of brewing both ground coffee and pod-based espresso drinks. Integrated in the boot of the vehicle, these machines come complete with a milk frother, a coffee grinder, a knock box, and a refrigerator. This makes the Mokka Coffe-E a mobile barista station, perfect for long trips or leisurely stops at charging stations.

Vauxhall’s managing director, James Taylor, emphasized the appeal of the Mokka Coffe-E by noting the nation's obsession with coffee, which sees 95 million cups consumed daily in the UK alone. "We wanted to offer a new level of convenience for EV drivers," he said. The result is a car that reflects both the practicality of electric vehicles and the pleasure of a fresh cup of coffee.

The Mokka Coffe-E’s Powertrain and Charging Capabilities

Underneath its caffeinated exterior, the Mokka Coffe-E retains the robust performance of the standard Mokka Electric. The 54kWh battery provides a significant boost compared to the standard model’s 50kWh, delivering up to 252 miles on a single charge—a noticeable increase from the standard model's 209 miles. The electric motor generates 154bhp, allowing for quick acceleration and a smooth driving experience.

Charging times for the Mokka Coffe-E are designed to fit perfectly with your coffee break. The vehicle supports DC rapid charging, enabling it to go from 0% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes. That’s just enough time to grind fresh beans, steam your milk, and enjoy your cup of coffee before hitting the road again. This seamless integration of technology and lifestyle demonstrates Vauxhall’s focus on making EV ownership more enjoyable and stress-free.

Inside the Mokka Coffe-E: A Barista's Paradise

The interior of the Mokka Coffe-E is where this concept really shines. In the boot, Vauxhall has crafted a custom-built coffee station, complete with all the tools needed to prepare barista-quality coffee on the go. The station includes:

  • Two coffee machines (one for ground coffee, one for pods)
  • A milk frother for lattes and cappuccinos
  • A coffee grinder for fresh grounds
  • A knock box to dispose of used coffee pucks
  • A refrigerator to keep milk and other ingredients fresh
  • A bespoke pull-out drawer containing essential barista tools like scales and an espresso tamper

This setup ensures that drivers have access to a freshly brewed cup of coffee wherever they go. No more relying on roadside cafes or fast-food outlets for your caffeine fix—the Mokka Coffe-E puts the power of a professional coffee machine at your fingertips.

Why Coffee and EVs Go Hand-in-Hand

The rise of electric vehicles has changed the way people travel, especially when it comes to charging habits. Many EV drivers now plan their routes based on the availability of charging stations, and for some, this means incorporating stops at locations where they can grab a coffee while waiting for their vehicle to recharge. Vauxhall has cleverly tapped into this emerging trend by designing a vehicle that caters to the needs of coffee lovers and eco-conscious drivers alike.

According to Vauxhall's research, three-quarters of EV drivers actively choose charging points based on nearby coffee outlets. This statistic reflects a broader societal shift towards combining functionality with pleasure—and what better way to enjoy a charging break than by brewing a cup of your favorite coffee? With the Mokka Coffe-E, Vauxhall is helping to reshape the EV experience, making it not just about the journey but also about enjoying the moments in between.

The Standard Mokka-E: Affordable and Practical

While the Mokka Coffe-E remains a one-off concept for now, the standard Mokka-E is widely available and continues to appeal to drivers looking for a stylish and practical electric vehicle. Priced at $36,683 (converted from £29,495), the Mokka-E offers excellent value for money, especially considering its range of 209 miles on a full charge. It features a 50kWh battery and a 134bhp electric motor, making it a strong contender in the compact EV market.

The standard Mokka-E also supports DC rapid charging, meaning drivers can recharge 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes, much like the Coffe-E concept. However, unlike its caffeinated counterpart, the Mokka-E does not come with a built-in coffee machine, leaving drivers to source their own caffeine fixes.

The Future of EVs and Coffee Culture

While the Mokka Coffe-E is not slated for mass production, it showcases Vauxhall’s ability to innovate and cater to lifestyle trends. The concept reflects a growing intersection between technology and culture, where vehicles are not just modes of transport but extensions of personal identity and daily habits. By integrating something as ubiquitous and beloved as coffee into the design of an EV, Vauxhall has highlighted the potential for future vehicles to be multifunctional spaces that enhance the driving experience.

As more EV manufacturers explore ways to make charging downtime more enjoyable, concepts like the Mokka Coffe-E could pave the way for a new era of vehicle customization and personal expression. Whether it’s through entertainment systems, health and wellness features, or even coffee stations, the future of driving could look very different from what we know today.

Conclusion: More Than Just a Car—It’s a Coffee Experience

In the end, the Vauxhall Mokka Coffe-E represents much more than a quirky one-off concept. It symbolizes the future of automotive design, where the car becomes a lifestyle hub that reflects and supports the driver’s habits, preferences, and passions. For the millions of coffee lovers in the UK, the Mokka Coffe-E offers a tantalizing glimpse of what’s possible when creativity meets functionality.

Even though Vauxhall has no immediate plans to produce the Coffe-E, the enthusiasm surrounding this concept highlights a real demand for vehicles that offer more than just transportation. The Mokka Coffe-E might be ahead of its time, but it shows that Vauxhall is thinking about the future of driving in new and exciting ways.

The Mokka Coffe-E is more than just a car—it’s an experience that blends the joys of driving with the pleasures of a perfect coffee break. @via electrive.
