Suzuki's S-Hybrid self-charging hybrid system debuted in the Suzuki Vitara model before the summer break. Now, it's the turn of the Suzuki S-Cross family SUV, which will be available in two S-Hybrid versions for $45,760.
A 1.5 Dualjet gasoline engine with 102 hp and a solid electric motor that makes 33 hp work together in the engine compartment. A 140V battery under the floor of the luggage compartment powers the electric motor.
The gasoline engine, the electric motor, or both engines can move the Suzuki S-Cross family SUV with S-hybrid. It happens entirely by itself and is based on things like how fast the car is going, how the accelerator is being used, and how full the hybrid battery is. During acceleration, the electric motor gives the driveline more power. When the car is going at a steady speed with a low load, the gasoline engine will shut off, and the car will run on electricity. This means that driving on electricity is most fun when going short distances in the city or up to 80 km/h on country roads.
When the engine slows down, or the brake pedal is pressed, the hybrid car's battery is charged. When the car is driven at a steady speed with a light load, the electric motor uses the turns of the gasoline engine to charge the battery. According to the WLTP standard, the Suzuki S-Cross S-Hybrid model gets a nice 19.2 km/l in mixed driving and a huge 21.3 km/l at low speed, which is also where the system shows its best features.
The power from the engine goes to the wheels through a 6-step automatic gearbox (AGS). Here, a shift robot changes the gears, but the driver can also use the two shift paddles on the steering wheel to change gears by hand. When you change gears, the electric motor turns on and sends torque, which makes the gear change go more smoothly.
The S-Hybrid system and automatic gear change are new to the Suzuki S-Cross. It comes in two versions: Active and Adventure. And, like most Suzukis, they come with a lot of extra stuff. The Suzuki S-Cross Active model, which costs $45,725, has essential features like automatic emergency braking, active cruise control, lane assistant with force-back, blind spot warning, automatic air conditioning with 2 zones, a rain sensor, 7 airbags, and a 7-inch touchscreen. There is a multimedia system, front and back parking sensors, keyless entry, and aluminum wheels.
In the Suzuki S-Cross Adventure version, the features are topped off by an electrically operated panoramic sunroof, leather, and faux leather upholstery. For an extra $4,280, you can get an HD screen, a 360° camera, built-in navigation, and a wireless Apple CarPlay connection.
