The MINI Cooper SE is the first all-electric model from the iconic British brand. It combines the fun-to-drive character of the MINI Cooper with the efficiency and sustainability of electric power. But what if you want more spice in your electric hatchback? Enter the new MINI Cooper SE in JCW Trim, a sporty package that adds some visual flair and performance tweaks to the electric MINI.
What is the JCW Trim?
JCW stands for John Cooper Works, the name of the racing division of MINI. JCW models are the most powerful and dynamic versions of the MINI lineup, featuring enhanced engines, suspension, brakes, and aerodynamics. The JCW Trim is a way to get some of the JCW style and features on the MINI Cooper SE without changing its electric powertrain.
What does the JCW Trim include?
The JCW Trim for the MINI Cooper SE includes a distinctive front and rear design that echoes the look of the full JCW models. The frame of the front grille and the logo are in high-gloss black, providing a unique touch. The JCW Trim also offers a Chili Red roof for the first time on a non-JCW car, as well as more paint color and contrast roof/mirror options. The JCW bonnet stripes are available in either Chili Red or black.
The rear end of the JCW Trim features a sporty spoiler, a sizable diffuser insert, and redesigned Union Jack taillights. The diffuser has yellow stickers in the middle, where the exhaust pipes would sit in the hot ICE-powered MINI. The JCW Trim also comes with 18-inch John Cooper Works Lap Spoke 2-tone wheels, which complement the Legend Grey Metallic color of the car.
Inside, the JCW Trim adds some sporty touches to the cabin, such as a JCW leather steering wheel, JCW door sills, JCW floor mats, and JCW sports seats. The seats are upholstered in Dinamica/leather combination in Carbon Black, with red contrast stitching and JCW badges. The JCW Trim also includes a head-up display, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a navigation system.
How does the JCW Trim affect the performance?
The JCW Trim does not alter the MINI Cooper SE electric powertrain, which remains unchanged from the standard model. The MINI Cooper SE is powered by a 160 kW or 218 hp electric motor on the front axle, which delivers 330 Nm or 243 lb-ft of torque. The electric MINI Cooper SE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h or 62 mph in 6.7 seconds, achieving a top speed of 170 km/h or 105 mph. The electric range of the MINI Cooper SE is between 385 and 402 km or 239 and 250 miles, depending on the driving mode and conditions. The car supports charging speeds of up to 95 kW, which can replenish 80% of the battery in 35 minutes.
The JCW Trim does, however, add some performance tweaks to the chassis and suspension of the MINI Cooper SE. The JCW Trim lowers the ride height by 10 mm or 0.4 inches, improving the car's handling and stability. The JCW Trim also includes an adaptive suspension system, which adjusts the damping force according to the road conditions and driving style. The driver can choose between two modes: Comfort and Sport. The Comfort mode offers a balanced and comfortable ride, while the Sport mode stiffens the suspension and sharpens the steering and throttle response.
