2024 Nissan Armada: A Big, Bold, and Brawny SUV with a Price to Match

2024 Nissan Armada

If you’re looking for a full-size SUV that can easily haul your family, toys, and stuff, you might want to check out the 2024 Nissan Armada. The Armada is one of the few remaining SUVs that can claim to be truck-based, using body-on-frame construction and packing a powerful V8 under its hood. Nissan’s largest SUV seats seven or eight passengers, depending on configuration, and can accommodate a sizable amount of cargo with the rear seats folded down. But all that capability comes at a cost in terms of fuel economy and sticker price. Here’s what you need to know about the 2024 Nissan Armada.

What’s New for 2024?

The 2024 Nissan Armada is essentially the same as the 2023 model, which received a significant refresh in 2021. That update included a new front-end design with a taller, more upright grille, aggressive headlights, and a revised rear bumper and taillights. The interior also got a makeover, with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The Armada also gained more standard safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. The only change for 2024 is a slight increase in the starting price, which now begins at $55,450 for the base S trim, up from $53,000 in 2023.

How Much Does the 2024 Nissan Armada Cost?

The 2024 Nissan Armada is available in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. All models come standard with a 5.6-liter V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive is standard, and the four-wheel drive is optional for an extra $3,000. The Armada’s pricing is competitive with other full-size SUVs from mainstream brands, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, the Ford Expedition, and the Toyota Sequoia. However, it’s also close to some luxury models, such as its mechanically related but more upscale twin, the Infiniti QX80. Here’s a breakdown of the 2024 Armada’s pricing by trim level:

  • S: $55,450 (RWD) / $58,450 (4WD)
  • SV: $58,950 (RWD) / $61,950 (4WD)
  • SL: $64,250 (RWD) / $67,250 (4WD)
  • Platinum: $70,150 (RWD) / $73,150 (4WD)

The S trim is the most basic, but it still has some desirable features, such as 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, a power liftgate, a trailer brake controller, tinted privacy glass, a dark roof rack, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. The SV trim adds 20-inch wheels, a sunroof, leather seats, a 13-speaker Bose sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a 360-degree camera system. The SL trim further enhances the Armada’s luxury with 22-inch wheels, a power-folding third-row seat, a power-adjustable steering column, a memory system for the driver’s seat, mirrors, and steering wheel, and a dual-screen rear entertainment system. The Platinum trim is the most lavish, with quilted leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a head-up display, and a rearview mirror camera.

How Does the 2024 Nissan Armada Perform?

The 2024 Nissan Armada is capable and confident, thanks to its potent V8 engine and sturdy chassis. The Armada can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds, which is quick for a vehicle that weighs more than 5,500 pounds. The Armada can also tow up to 8,500 pounds, which is among the best in its class. The Armada’s ride is smooth and stable, and its cabin is quiet at highway speeds. However, the Armada’s handling is not very agile, and its steering is vague and slow. The Armada’s size also makes it challenging to maneuver in tight spaces, and its high cargo floor makes loading and unloading difficult. The Armada’s biggest drawback is its poor fuel economy, which is rated at 14 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined for the RWD models and 13/18/15 mpg for the 4WD models. Those numbers are lower than most of its rivals, and they mean that the Armada will cost you more at the pump.

How Does the 2024 Nissan Armada Compare with Its Competitors?

The 2024 Nissan Armada faces stiff competition from other full-size SUVs, both from mainstream and luxury brands. Here’s how the Armada stacks up against some of its key rivals:

ModelBase PriceEnginePowerTorqueTowing Capacity
2024 Nissan Armada$55,4505.6-liter V8400 hp413 lb-ft8,500 lbs
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe$51,2955.3-liter V8355 hp383 lb-ft8,400 lbs
2022 Ford Expedition$54,8103.5-liter twin-turbo V6375 hp470 lb-ft9,300 lbs
2022 Toyota Sequoia$51,4655.7-liter V8381 hp401 lb-ft7,400 lbs
2022 Infiniti QX80$71,8505.6-liter V8400 hp413 lb-ft8,500 lbs

As you can see, the Armada offers more power and torque than the Tahoe and the Sequoia but less than the Expedition. The Armada also matches the QX80 in power and torque since they share the same engine. The Armada’s towing capacity is impressive, but it falls short of the Expedition’s. The Armada’s fuel economy is the worst, except for the Sequoia, which is equally dismal. The Armada’s base price is higher than the Tahoe and the Sequoia but lower than the Expedition and the QX80. The Armada’s value proposition depends on how much you value its V8 performance, truck-like utility, and luxury features.

Is the 2024 Nissan Armada Worth Buying?

The 2024 Nissan Armada is a big, bold, and brawny SUV with plenty of space, power, and capability. It’s also well-equipped, especially in the higher trim levels, with features that rival some luxury models. However, the Armada is also thirsty, cumbersome, and expensive, and it lacks some of the refinement and technology that newer competitors offer. If you’re looking for a full-size SUV that can do it all, the Armada might be a good option for you. But if you’re looking for something more efficient, agile, and modern, you might want to consider other alternatives.
