Honda Prologue: The Electric SUV That Goes Beyond Expectations

Honda Prologue: The Electric SUV That Goes Beyond Expectations

Honda is ready to enter the electric vehicle market with its first all-electric SUV, the 2024 Honda Prologue. The Prologue promises to deliver a sporty driving experience, a spacious and tech-rich cabin, and a class-leading standard range rating of 296 miles. The Prologue will start arriving at dealers this spring, priced at $47,400, before any government incentives or tax credits.

What Makes the Prologue Stand Out?

The Prologue is not just another electric SUV. It is a vehicle that reflects Honda’s vision of creating a sustainable, clean-energy future. The Honda Prologue is built on a state-of-the-art electric platform with a sleek and modern design and many features that make it fun, convenient, and safe to drive.

Some of the key features of the Prologue include:

  • Google built-in: The Prologue comes with Google built-in, which means you can access Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play, and other Google services directly from the 11.3-inch center display. You can also connect your smartphone with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • Wireless charging: The Prologue offers a wireless phone charger and a wireless key fob, so you don’t have to worry about cords or batteries. You can also use the HondaLink app to remotely start, lock, unlock, and locate your Prologue and check its battery status and charging schedule.
  • Honda Sensing: The Prologue is equipped with a comprehensive suite of Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot steering assist, parking assist, and more. The Prologue also features a head-up display that projects important information on the windshield, such as speed, navigation, and alerts.
  • Bose Premium Audio System: The Prologue lets you enjoy your favorite tunes with the Bose Premium 12 Speaker Audio System, which delivers crisp and clear sound quality. You can also access Sirius XM satellite radio, HD radio, and Bluetooth streaming audio.
  • Leather-trimmed interior: The Prologue offers a luxurious and comfortable interior, with leather-trimmed seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 10-way power driver seat, and a dual-zone automatic climate control. The Prologue also has a generous cargo space of 33.9 cubic feet, which can be expanded to 68.7 cubic feet by folding the rear seats.

How Does the Prologue Perform?

The Honda Prologue is powered by a single front motor, producing 212 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. The Prologue also offers an optional all-wheel drive system, adding a second rear motor, boosting the total output to 288 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. The Prologue can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7 seconds and has a top speed of 112 mph.

The Prologue has a 77 kWh battery pack, which gives it an EPA range rating of 296 miles on a full charge. The Prologue can be charged using a Level 2 charger, which takes about 8 hours to fully charge the battery, or a DC fast charger, which can provide about 65 miles of range in 10 minutes. The Prologue also comes with Honda Smart Charge, which automatically determines the best and most cost-efficient time to charge the vehicle based on your driving patterns and electricity rates.

The Honda Prologue has a multi-link front and rear suspension, which provides a smooth and stable ride. The Prologue also has a regenerative braking system, which recovers energy from braking and deceleration, and a selectable drive mode system, which lets you choose between Normal, Sport, and Eco modes, depending on your driving preferences.

How Does the Prologue Compare to Other Electric SUVs?

The Honda Prologue is not the only electric SUV in the market. There are several other models that offer similar or better features, performance, and price. Here is a comparison table that shows how the Prologue stacks up against some of its competitors:

ModelMSRPRangePowerCargo Space
Honda Prologue EX$47,400296 miles212 hp / 236 lb-ft33.9 cu ft
Ford Mustang Mach-E Select$42,895230 miles266 hp / 317 lb-ft29.7 cu ft
Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE$39,700303 miles225 hp / 258 lb-ft27.2 cu ft
Volkswagen ID.4 Pro$39,995250 miles201 hp / 229 lb-ft30.3 cu ft
Tesla Model Y Standard Range$41,990244 miles384 hp / 376 lb-ft68 cu ft

As you can see, the Prologue has the highest range and cargo space among its competitors but also the highest price. The Prologue also has less power than some of its rivals, especially the Tesla Model Y, which has almost twice as much horsepower and torque. The Prologue does have some advantages, such as Google built-in, wireless charging, and Honda Sensing, which may appeal to some buyers.

Is the Prologue Worth Buying?

The Honda Prologue is a solid entry into the electric vehicle market and a great option for Honda fans who want to go green. The Prologue offers a spacious, stylish interior, a sporty, refined driving experience, and a class-leading range rating. The Prologue also comes with a host of tech features, such as Google built-in, wireless charging, and Honda Sensing, that make it fun and convenient to drive.

However, the Prologue is not perfect. The Prologue has a high price tag, which may deter some buyers who are looking for a more affordable electric SUV. The Prologue also has less power than some of its competitors, which may disappoint some drivers who are looking for a more thrilling performance. The Prologue also faces stiff competition from other electric SUVs, such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Volkswagen ID.4, and the Tesla Model Y, which offer similar or better features, performance, and price.

Ultimately, the Prologue is a good choice for buyers who value range, space, and reliability and who are willing to pay a premium for them. The Prologue is also a good choice for buyers who are loyal to the Honda brand and who want to support its vision of a sustainable, clean-energy future. The Prologue is not a good choice for buyers who are looking for a bargain, a powerhouse, or a game-changer and who are open to exploring other options in the electric vehicle market.

The Prologue is expected to arrive at dealers in March 2024. If you are interested in purchasing the Prologue, you can let a participating dealer know by filling out a simple form on the Honda website. You can also sign up for updates and news about the Prologue and learn more about its features and specifications.

The Prologue is the first step in Honda’s electrification strategy, which aims to achieve 100% zero-emissions vehicle sales by 2040. The Prologue will be followed by a second electric SUV, which will be based on the Honda e platform, and will be developed in collaboration with General Motors. Honda also plans to introduce more hybrid and fuel cell vehicles and new technologies and services to support its electrification goals.

The Prologue is the electric SUV that goes beyond expectations. It is a vehicle that combines range, space, and style with fun, convenience, and safety. It is a vehicle that reflects Honda’s commitment to creating a better future for everyone. It is a vehicle that you should definitely check out if you are looking for an electric SUV that stands out from the crowd.
