2024 Acura TLX Review: A Sporty and Luxurious Sedan with New Tech and Style

2024 Acura TLX Review

The 2024 Acura TLX is a premium compact sedan that offers a blend of performance, luxury, and technology. The latest model features enhanced styling, new and improved tech, and a quieter cabin, making it a compelling choice for drivers who want a sporty and refined ride.

What’s New for 2024?

The 2024 Acura TLX has received a mild facelift that brings it closer to the stunning Type S Concept that debuted in 2019. The front end has been redesigned with a more aggressive grille, a larger Acura logo and smaller driver assist sensors. The grille also has different mesh patterns for the A-Spec and Type S trims, adding some visual distinction.

The TLX also has two new paint colors: Urban Gray Pearl for the A-Spec and Type S, and Liquid Carbon Metallic for the base Technology package. The A-Spec and Type S also get new wheel designs, round exhaust tips and a revised rear spoiler.

The trim lineup has been simplified, with only three options available: the front-wheel-drive TLX Technology, the all-wheel-drive TLX A-Spec, and the all-wheel-drive TLX Type S. The latter is the performance-oriented model that boasts a 355-hp turbocharged V-6 engine, adaptive dampers, leather upholstery, and an ELS premium audio system.

What's Inside the 2024 Acura TLX?

The 2024 Acura TLX has a spacious and upscale interior that can accommodate up to five passengers. The cabin is equipped with a range of features that enhance comfort, convenience, and safety, such as:

  • A 10.2-inch infotainment display with a touchpad controller
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • A 7-inch digital instrument cluster
  • A wireless charging pad
  • A 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • A dual-zone automatic climate control
  • A power moonroof
  • A blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert
  • A forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
  • A lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow

The 2024 Acura TLX also has a quieter cabin than before, thanks to improved sound insulation and active noise cancellation. The cabin also features ambient lighting, wood trim and metal accents that create a premium atmosphere.

How Does the 2024 Acura TLX Drive?

The 2024 Acura TLX offers a dynamic and engaging driving experience with two engine options and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The base TLX Technology has a 272-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers smooth and responsive acceleration. The TLX A-Spec and Type S have a 355-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that provides more power and torque for spirited driving.

The TLX also has a sophisticated suspension system that balances ride comfort and handling agility. The TLX Technology has a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear setup, while the TLX A-Spec and Type S have a double wishbone front and multi-link rear arrangement. The TLX Type S also has adaptive dampers that adjust the suspension's firmness according to the driving mode and road conditions.

The TLX also benefits from Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system, which is optional for the TLX A-Spec and standard for the TLX Type S. The SH-AWD system can distribute torque between the front and rear axles, as well as between the left and right rear wheels, to enhance traction, stability and cornering performance.

How Does the 2024 Acura TLX Compare to Its Rivals?

The 2024 Acura TLX competes with other premium compact sedans, such as the BMW 3 Series, the Genesis G70, the Lexus IS, the Audi A4, the Volvo S60 and the Kia Stinger. Here is a comparison table that shows how the TLX stacks up against some of its rivals in terms of price, performance, fuel economy and cargo space:

ModelPrice (USD)EngineHorsepowerTorque (lb-ft)0-60 mph (sec)MPG (city/highway/combined)Cargo Space (cu ft)

2022 Kia Stinger GT1$44,7353.3L turbo V-63683764.718/25/2023.3

As the table shows, the 2024 Acura TLX offers a competitive price, performance, and fuel economy for its segment. The TLX Technology and A-Spec are slightly more expensive than the base models of some rivals, but they also offer more power and torque. The TLX Type S is cheaper than the BMW M340i and the Kia Stinger GT1, but it also has more horsepower and torque than both. The TLX also has decent cargo space, although it is smaller than some competitors.

The TLX’s main drawbacks are its relatively high curb weight, which affects its agility and efficiency, and its infotainment system, which has a touchpad controller that can be distracting to use. The TLX also lacks some features that are available in some rivals, such as a head-up display, a digital gauge cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and a plug-in hybrid option.

Is the 2024 Acura TLX Worth Buying?

The 2024 Acura TLX is a sport sedan that has a lot to offer for drivers who value performance, luxury, and technology. The latest model has improved its styling, tech, and cabin comfort, making it more attractive and enjoyable. The TLX also has a range of trims and options that can suit different preferences and budgets.

The TLX is not perfect, however, and it faces stiff competition from other premium compact sedans that have their own strengths and weaknesses. The TLX may not be the best choice for drivers prioritizing fuel efficiency, cargo space, ease of use, or cutting-edge features. The TLX may also not appeal to drivers who prefer a more distinctive or expressive design.

Ultimately, the 2024 Acura TLX is worth buying if you are looking for a sport sedan that is worth buying if you are looking for a sport sedan that combines performance, luxury, and technology in a balanced and refined package. The 2024 Acura TLX is a solid and reliable choice that can deliver a satisfying and enjoyable driving experience. However, if you want something more efficient, spacious, user-friendly or innovative, you may want to consider some of the other options in the segment. The 2024 Acura TLX is expected to go on sale in the fall of 2023, with prices starting from $41,000 for the TLX Technology and going up to $53,000 for the TLX Type S.
