What's New in the 2024 Porsche Panamera? Design, Interior, Powertrain, and Technology

2024 Porsche Panamera

Porsche has unveiled the third generation of its flagship four-door sports car, the Panamera, at the Shanghai Auto Show. The new model features a sleeker design, a more luxurious interior, a wider range of plug-in hybrid powertrains, and many new technologies. Here are some of the highlights of the new 2024 Porsche Panamera.

Design: sharper and more muscular

The new Porsche Panamera retains its predecessors' distinctive silhouette and proportions but with more refined and dynamic details. The front end features new LED matrix headlights with a sharper shape and a more aggressive grille. The rear end has a full-width light strip with an illuminated Porsche logo and a redesigned bumper and diffuser. The new Panamera also has more muscular fenders and side panels and new 20- and 21-inch wheels.

Interior: more spacious and digital

The new Panamera offers a more spacious and comfortable cabin with improved ergonomics and quality. The dashboard has been redesigned with a new 12.6-inch driver’s information display, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a new gear selector. The center console has fewer buttons and more touch-sensitive controls. The new Panamera also offers an optional 10.9-inch secondary touchscreen for the front passenger, which can be used to access various functions, such as navigation, media, or lap timer. The front passenger can also watch streaming services, such as YouTube and TikTok, on the screen, which is not visible to the driver while the car is in motion. The new Panamera also offers a leather-free interior option for the first time, as well as new seats with enhanced comfort and support.

Powertrain: more efficient and diverse

The 2024 Porsche Panamera offers a range of powertrain options, from the base 2.9-liter V6 with 353 horsepower to the top-of-the-line Turbo S E-Hybrid with a 4.0-liter V8 and an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 690 horsepower. The new Panamera also adds a fourth plug-in hybrid variant, the Turbo E-Hybrid, which has a 4.0-liter V8 and an electric motor, producing a total of 563 horsepower. All the plug-in hybrid models have a more powerful electric motor integrated into the housing of a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (PDK). The electric motor draws its energy from a larger 25.9-kWh battery pack, which can be charged with an 11-kW onboard charger. The plug-in hybrid models can drive up to 70 percent more on electric power than the previous generation, according to Porsche. The new Panamera also features a new liftoff mode, which smoothly shifts down the gears until the car comes to a full stop.

Technology: more advanced and connected

The new Panamera has many new technologies, enhancing its performance, safety, and convenience. The new Panamera features the Driver Experience control concept, which groups all the driving-related functions, such as the drive mode selector, the chassis settings, and the exhaust sound. The new Panamera also features the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, which integrates various online services, such as navigation, music streaming, voice control, and smartphone integration. The new Panamera also offers a range of driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, night vision assist, and park assist. The new Panamera also features the Porsche Connect app, which allows the driver to remotely access various functions, such as locking and unlocking the doors, checking the battery status, and pre-conditioning the cabin.

Comparison: how does the new Panamera stack up against its rivals?

The new Panamera faces stiff competition from other luxury and performance-oriented four-door models, such as the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and the Audi A7 Sportback. Here is a comparison table of some of the key specifications of these models:

Here is the article continued from the comparison table:

ModelBase price (USD)EnginePower (hp)Torque (lb-ft)0-60 mph (s)Top speed (mph)Fuel economy (mpg)
Porsche Panamera$100,000 (est)2.9L V63533695.216423 (est)
BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe$86,0003.0L I63353684.915524
Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe$99,9503.0L I64293844.417421
Audi A7 Sportback$69,2003.0L V63353695.213025

As the table shows, the new 2024 Porsche Panamera is the most expensive of the bunch but also the most powerful and the fastest. The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is slightly cheaper and slightly slower but offers similar luxury and performance. The Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe is the closest rival to the new Panamera, with a similar price and power output but slightly better acceleration and top speed. The Audi A7 Sportback is the group's most affordable, efficient, and the least powerful and slowest.
