Porsche has a knack for creating special editions of its iconic 911 that pay homage to its rich heritage and racing legacy. The 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic is the latest example, a limited-run model that combines classic design cues with modern performance and technology. The 911 Sport Classic is exclusive to the UK market, and only 250 units will be produced, making it a rare and desirable collector's item.
The 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic is based on the 911 Carrera 4S but features a number of distinctive elements that set it apart from the standard model. The most noticeable is the double-bubble roof, which recalls the shape of the 911 Speedster and adds some extra headroom for the occupants. The roof is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and weighs less than the conventional steel roof.
The car's rear also sports a CFRP ducktail spoiler, another nod to the classic 911 models of the 1970s. The spoiler enhances the aerodynamics and downforce of the car while also giving it a distinctive silhouette. The rear bumper has been redesigned to accommodate the spoiler and features a black diffuser and oval tailpipes.
The front of the car has a bespoke bumper with a black splitter, and round LED headlights with black surrounds. The side skirts, mirror caps, window frames, and door handles are also finished in black, creating a contrast with the exclusive Sport Classic Grey paintwork. The car rides on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear Fuchs-style wheels with black centers and polished rims, another tribute to the classic 911s.
The interior of the 911 Sport Classic is equally impressive, with a mix of premium materials and retro touches. The seats are upholstered in Espresso Brown leather with houndstooth fabric inserts, reminiscent of the original 911 seats. The dashboard, door panels, center console, and steering wheel are also covered in leather, while the headliner is made of Alcantara.
The sports car features a number of Sport Classic badges and plaques throughout the cabin, as well as a numbered plaque on the passenger side indicating the limited production run. The instrument cluster has green dials with white needles, another throwback to the old-school 911s. The new Porsche 911 Sport Classic also has a Bose surround sound system, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with online navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless charging.
The 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic is not just a pretty face, though. It also packs a punch under the hood, with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that delivers 444 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) and an all-wheel drive system, enabling the car to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 189 mph.
