Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 have new hybrid models

Peugeot 5008

New models and range-expanding technologies will make 2023 a watershed year for Peugeot's electric initiative. Stellantis's new hybrid system will debut on the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 before being available on further models. Electrified engines such as plug-in hybrids, electric motors, and fuel cell variations benefit from this expansion of the available options.

The 48V hybrid system combines a new electrified six-speed dual-clutch transmission with an electric motor and a 100 kW (136 hp) PureTech gasoline engine of the latest generation. Extra torque at low revs and up to a 15% reduction in fuel consumption are both benefits of this technology's battery, which recharges while you drive.

The Peugeot i-Cockpit displays useful information regarding the hybrid system to the driver. You can set up automatic activation of the various modes. The combustion engine and electric motor can either work together or independently to reduce fuel consumption during normal driving. The electric motor supplements the petrol engine's torque at low RPMs during vigorous acceleration. At low speeds, the gasoline engine turns off, and the electric motor acts as a generator to replenish the 48-volt battery. The electric motor can only be used for "Zero Emission" city driving and limited maneuvering.

One benefit of this new technology is a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 15 percent, with emissions of 126 grams of CO2/km for the Peugeot 3008 and 128 grams of CO2/km for the Peugeot 5008. In a C-segment SUV, the hybrid engine provides an average fuel savings of close to 1 l/100 km (based on the combined WLTP cycle) compared to a non-electrified petrol engine with equivalent characteristics.

The savings come from lower fuel use in the city (2.5 l/100 km) and on rural roads (0.7 l/100 km), but not on the interstate. A decrease of 20 g/km in CO2 emissions results from the performance improvements made to the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 on average (combined according to the WLTP cycle).

The hybrid technology allows the vehicle to be started, maneuvered (for example, when parking), and driven at moderate speeds in heavy traffic in all-electric mode if the battery charge permits. More than half of the time in city traffic, both the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 HYBRID may be driven in emission-free electric mode. To conserve fuel at higher speeds (up to 145 km/h), the combustion engine turns off if the accelerator pedal is not held down continuously or when the vehicle is put in neutral.

To make up for the turbo's lag in responding to acceleration, the electric motor offers extra torque with a single boost. This prevents the need for downshifts and makes for a more pleasant and dynamic driving experience. The electric motor adds around 12 horsepower (or 9 kW) when the accelerator is fully depressed.

Everything that makes up the brand-new engine is stashed away in the engine bay. The 48-volt battery found under the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008's left front seat is an exception.

Peugeot's 48V Hybrid uses a novel non-torque-interrupting dual-clutch electrified transmission and offers six gears. The electric motor, inverter, and control unit are all included within the transmission case, reducing unneeded parts and ensuring top-notch driving performance.

The integrated permanent magnet synchronous electric motor generates 21 kW (28 hp) of peak power and 55 Nm of peak torque. Supporting the combustion engine's efficiency allows the vehicle to be driven solely by electricity under low torque conditions. When braking, the engine converts to a generator, charging the hybrid system's 48-volt battery. The internal combustion engine is also kicked into gear with the help of the belt starter generator. The starter, which receives power from the auxiliary unit belt, guarantees that the combustion engine restarts when the voltage reaches 48 volts. It makes it possible to get going rapidly and openly.

The 48 V lithium-ion battery has an overall capacity of 898 Wh, with 432 Wh usable. With its eight-year original warranty and 160,000 kilometers of supplied driving range, it is built to run at a consistently high level for the duration of the vehicle's useful life.

There are two separate electrical networks in the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008: one at 12 volts to power the vehicle's systems and another at 48 volts to power the hybrid system. The power is then sent into the car's 12-volt system via a DC-DC converter.

Peugeots with the new hybrid powertrain feature a unique gauge cluster. The digital dashboard shows energy flow in the system, battery charge level, operating status via a power meter (Charge, Eco, Power), and the proportion of the trip covered by electric power at any particular time or date (speedometer in blue).

Additionally, the AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System) will be installed in certain vehicles, making noise at speeds up to 30 km/h, to alert pedestrians and cyclists that the car is coming.
