2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness: The Ultimate Adventure Wagon

2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness: The Ultimate Adventure Wagon

If you're looking for a vehicle that can handle any terrain, weather, or road condition, you might want to check out the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness. This is the most rugged and capable version of the popular Outback wagon, and it comes with a host of features that make it ready for any adventure.

The new Subaru Outback Wilderness is not just a cosmetic upgrade. It has a higher ground clearance, a more aggressive suspension, a revised drivetrain, and a unique exterior design that sets it apart from the rest of the Outback lineup. Here are some of the key features that make the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness the ultimate adventure wagon.

Higher Ground Clearance

Increased ground clearance is one of the most noticeable differences between the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness and the regular Subaru Outback. The Wilderness model has 9.5 inches of clearance, which is 0.8 inches more than the standard Outback. This allows it to tackle rougher trails, deeper snow, and larger obstacles without scraping the underbody.

The higher ground clearance also improves the approach, departure, and breakover angles of the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness. These angles measure how well a vehicle can climb or descend steep slopes without damaging the front or rear bumpers. The Wilderness model has an approach angle of 20 degrees, a departure angle of 23.6 degrees, and a breakover angle of 21.2 degrees. These are significantly better than the regular Outback's angles of 18.6, 21.7, and 19.4 degrees, respectively.

More Aggressive Suspension

Another feature that enhances the off-road performance of the new Subaru Outback Wilderness is the more aggressive suspension. The Wilderness model has a specially tuned suspension that is stiffer and more responsive than the standard Outback's suspension. This helps to reduce body roll and improve stability on uneven surfaces.

The suspension also features new shocks and springs that are designed to handle higher loads and impacts. The shocks have longer travel and increased rebound damping, which means they can absorb more bumps and vibrations without losing control. The springs have higher rates and increased preload, which means they can support more weight and maintain proper ride height.

Revised Drivetrain

The 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness also has a revised drivetrain that optimizes its power delivery and traction on various terrains. The Wilderness model is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine that produces 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that mimics an eight-speed gearbox to provide smooth and efficient acceleration.

The CVT also features a new final drive ratio of 4.44:1, which is lower than the regular Outback's ratio of 3.90:1. The Wilderness model has more torque at the wheels, improving its low-speed crawling and towing capabilities. The Wilderness model can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is the same as the regular Outback with the turbo engine.

The 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness also comes with Subaru's signature symmetrical all-wheel drive system, which distributes power evenly to all four wheels for optimal traction and stability. The system also features an advanced X-Mode function that adjusts various parameters such as engine output, transmission shift pattern, throttle response, brake pressure, and torque distribution to suit different driving conditions. The X-Mode function has two modes: Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud, which can be selected via a rotary dial on the center console.

Unique Exterior Design

The new Subaru Outback Wilderness also stands out from the crowd with its unique exterior design. The Wilderness model has a distinctive front fascia that features a redesigned bumper and grille, LED fog lights, and matte black cladding. The bumper has larger openings for improved airflow and cooling and integrated tow hooks for easy recovery. The grille has a hexagonal pattern and a blacked-out Subaru logo for a sporty look.

The side profile of the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness showcases its higher stance and longer roof rails. The roof rails are made of anodized aluminum and have a load capacity of 700 pounds. They also have integrated tie-down points for securing cargo or accessories such as kayaks or bikes. The side mirrors have a metallic black finish and integrated turn signals for added visibility.

The rear end of the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness features a new bumper with a skid plate and dual exhaust tips. The tailgate has LED lighting for easier access to the cargo area at night. The cargo area has a capacity of 32.5 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 75.7 cubic feet with them folded down. The tailgate also has a hands-free power function that can be activated by waving a foot under the bumper.

The new Subaru Outback Wilderness is available in four exterior colors: Crystal Black Silica, Crystal White Pearl, Geyser Blue, and Autumn Green Metallic. It also has exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels with a matte black finish and all-terrain tires. The tires have a more aggressive tread pattern and a higher sidewall for better grip and durability on rough surfaces. The Wilderness model also has special badges and decals that highlight its adventurous character.

Conclusion

The 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness is the most rugged and capable version of the popular Outback wagon. It has a higher ground clearance, a more aggressive suspension, a revised drivetrain, and a unique exterior design that make it ready for any adventure. Whether you're cruising on the highway, exploring the backcountry, or towing a trailer, the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness can handle it all with ease and style. If you're interested in this ultimate adventure wagon, you can expect to pay around $40,000 for it. The 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness is expected to arrive at dealerships in the summer of 2023.
