The Audi activesphere is a versatile and boundary-crossing vehicle that combines opposites. The drive system and chassis make it capable on and off the road. It can be operated aggressively using the steering wheel and pedals or automatically for a more comfortable ride. It is a coupe with classically athletic and attractive features that can be changed into a pickup truck with space for sports equipment in a matter of seconds.
The Audi activesphere concept car was created and constructed in the Audi Design Studio in Malibu, California, just a short distance from the renowned Pacific Coast Highway. The creative geniuses behind the project are Gael Buzyn, the head of the design company, and his staff.
The Audi activesphere is a concept car that uses an electric powertrain and fast charging technology from Audi's modular PPE platform. Because of the 800-volt technology, it charges quickly.
The Audi activesphere measures 4.98 meters in length, 2.07 meters in width, and 1.60 meters in height. The wheelbase is considerably stretched (2.97 meters), as is common for an electric vehicle, for maximum legroom. The front and rear overhangs are similarly small, creating a considerably more compact feel than the figures suggest.
The big 22" rims, high ground clearance, and Audi-typical coupe line give the proportions of a sports vehicle. The 285/55 tires demonstrate off-road capability. The rims contain adjustable portions that open for improved airflow when driving off-road and close for optimal aerodynamics when driving on the road. The camera mirrors on the two front doors are also meant to reduce drag.
The activesphere, like the Audi grandsphere and Audi urbansphere concept automobiles, is built on a modular system. The platform is being developed jointly by Audi and Porsche AG, and the first series-produced Audi vehicles based on PPE will be shown before the end of 2023.
Because PPE is a pure electric car platform, it can fully utilize the design to improve the car's driving qualities, economics, and packing. As a result, Audi can efficiently expand the range of electric vehicles in the major B and C sectors. Furthermore, economies of scale will allow for incorporating significant car technologies and multiple model variants in a wide range of cars, which is unprecedented in the premium market.
